Reality - no opinions allowed.
This thread is for posts about reality, not make believe fiction, nor opinionated paragraphs.
- We have played 3 of the top 4 teams in the first 4 weeks and are sitting at 2-2.
- We will be out of the 8 after this round is complete, unless Richmond beat Fremantle by less than a goal.
Anyone have anything to add?
Edit: Egg on my face, I had Port in for a win there. Comeback by brisbane put us 9th, we can drop as low as 10th.

the results have been irrelevant, the way we've played over the passed 4 weeks had hardly set the world on fire
plus we have no more excuses, Lyons been there long enough and we have hardly any injuries
i would like to see us start playing better very soon

Agree it is not the end of the world.
As we go on to play lesser ranked teams we should establish a place in the 8.
But I think we were expecting something a bit better than that.
The early experience is that we are a long way off being a top 2 side.
And unless you are a top 2 side you are only an outside chance to win a flag.

As I said many time before:
Over the last 4 to 5 years we have failed & neglected these key areas:
recuiting - We require more resources and strucutred approach to recruit players that best suit where the game is heading...
Player development - We require more structured approach to develop players on the list to their fullest potential. Any weaknesses need to be worked diligently (collingwood leads the way here...). Getting the best out of the players you have on the list is key, and you need resources to have the right programs
Injury Management - requires well researched structured program, utilizing the most modern appraches
(Since the board change-over we are FINALLY addressing these waekneses, BUT it will take time before we get it right.)
Coaching Changes - It takes time for the new styles and approaches to bed in. IMO we had a fair bit of upheval in the caoching dept last yr. We have a slightly better coaching approach now, just need to see how it gels through the year and into next yr.
I expect us to still make the finals, we will get better through the yr, but that facts are above....so I don't expect miracles...

I've bolded the points in your statement that are either opinion or false.mad saint guy wrote:Reality - We're playing crap footy, we have a full list to choose from and have played every game at our home ground. Without any doubt we are a level below Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn and the Bulldogs.
Would you also say we are a level below Sydney, who sit 3rd on the ladder (and above Hawthorn)? Who we did in fact beat in round 1.

How can good or bad footy be proven as fact? We had 2 players missing from our best team, which is as close to a full list as any AFL club will ever get (yes I know, opinion not fact) and every statistical piece of evidence would point towards us being far behind those four teams.Otiman wrote:I've bolded the points in your statement that are either opinion or false.mad saint guy wrote:Reality - We're playing crap footy, we have a full list to choose from and have played every game at our home ground. I think only accepting things that can be proven as fact is a way of hiding from reality. We ARE playing crap footy, injuries are no excuse and we have a very kind fixture. The only reason why we could possibly be losing is because we're not as good as our opposition.

Agreed it takes time for new styles and approaches to be bed in.
That is why this obsolete Sydney/small ground style and approach needs to go.
A new approach must begin now before this set of players' window of opportunity closes.
Where do you find a coach who is ahead of the game and not just copying what his former master taught him?

In 3 out of 4 weeks, we have played top 4 sides.st.byron wrote:Fact - you have to win games from April - August, against good sides, to play in finals in September.Otiman wrote:Fact - No finals are played in April.iwantmeseats wrote:So we beat the s*** sides Enrico? Yeah well and good, but what the hell is the point. We wouldnt be playing em in finals!
We play Hawthorn and Geelong once, and the Bulldogs and Sydney twice. That's only another 3 games for the rest of the year against the current top 4 sides.
We know now how we measure up to them, which is badly. We also know that our strategies and effort aren't up to scratch (according to Ross Lyon over the past few weeks). If we had have been 4-0, after playing Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne and Richmond, then people would be talking us up still.

it is a fair comment had we played Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne and Richmond in the first 4 and we were 4-0 playing this way most on here would agree we were set for a flag tiltst.byron wrote:Otiman wrote:Poor argument IMO. lets get some perspective we beat sydney currently sitting 4th we beat carltoon that honestly the narre warren under 12's could beat and lost to teams second and first repectivly on the ladder
Freo have lost to a mid table Collingwood a flyin 3rd placed Hawks then beat a struggleing West cost we will see what happens with richmond later
West coast have beat a up and down Brissy ,lost to a fireing Ald , lost to a struggleing freo and smashed by the 4th placed swans
so things could be worst

We have had a year already to get use to Lyon's way of coaching fact is that we are not capable of playing it for 4 quarters and i really doubt at this moment that we ever will be able to.kaos theory wrote:

Thats Mr. Smartarse to you
we play a injury hit and young essendon next week at the dome, port after a trip to subi (currently 0-4 and can't remember how to win) and then richmond.
At worse we could be 4-3, I can think of worse!

other realities
next week our team will play
we didn't move a game from the GC and only draw 22k (thus losing lots of money)
we don't have a thug called hall playing for us
We have not lost 15 in a row like carlton are about to (well not for a very long time)
a bottle of wine and chocolate .... plus watching the boxing on channel 10 can almost cheer someone up
