Toughness and Hardness

Post: # 546490Post Devilhead »

This team used to be tough and hard and feared however unfortunately we haven't been able to replace guys like Powell, Hamill and Black who were hard at the ball and strong over the ball

The amount of times Geelong broke our tackles tonight to get a handball away was embarrasing whereas we would get tackled and stayed tackled

One exception was Kosi's attack on Scarlett in the pocket in the last was sensational as was his effort in the 1st which resulted in a goal - we need more aggro in our game

Again today we were smashed after quarter time with regards to contested possessions - we were easily pushed aside - it is a glaring weakness at the moment along with our kicking for goal - the endeavour is there but the muscle isn't!!!

Thought Kosi played his best game of the season today......tough, determined, good in the ruck, useful up forward at times.

Agree Devil, we were busted apart in tackles by a team that meant business, they seemed sooostrong through the middle and still kept there feet. our back line with Hawkins looked insipid, he reminds me of o young Lockett it aint funny.
Is the new power forward making a comeback?? Big strong leading forward who shruggs off oposition??

Followed Saints since '71
Sir Robert Harvey was my favorite player
Stewie Lowe and Plugger before that.
Loved watching Rooey and Jack Steven
Now looking forward to the future

Some people make things happen, some people watch things happen, but most just say " What the f#&k happened!".

Good point. I missed this in a prior post.

When Kosi took out Scarlett, I was just waiting for the ump to award a tunnelling free kick.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Baker coming back will add a bit of hardness but seriously we used to hurt teams with ferociousness and attack at the ball - in 2004 and 2005 we were renowned for it alas now it is seriously lacking - there is no one on the field that makes you walk 10 foot taller like Hamill did - we need to get some aggro into the side and get it quick or else what little confidence we do have will be shot to pieces and our season will be over

:!: SPOT ON!!! regarding Hamill, Powell, Black add Bakes and we had a kernel of toughness at the heart of the side. Its no coincidence that the Cats were known as the "pussy cats" for their fragility (with pretty much the list they have NOW!)
This coach wants to pull his bloody finger out and stop being so laid back we need some FEROCITY or we are heading in the same direction as we did in 98-2001
