GRAND FINAL TICKETS FOR SALE
Whooppee doo! Andrew Demetriou is hoping to make 5,000 more seats available for club members at the AFL grand final in a two years time.
http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/p ... 92428.html
The MCG has a capacity of 98,000.
The Melbourne Cricket Club owns the lease.
The Melbourne Cricket Club finds the cash to pay for ALL the stands and facilities at the ground. The AFL did not contribute a cent to the building of the stands.
The Melbourne Cricket Club got some money from the state government so that the ground would be redeveloped and made available for the Commonwealth Games.
But the overwhelming amount of money came in the form of hundreds of millions of dollars of debt. Talk about mortgage stress and rising interest rates.
The MCC gets revenue from the catering contracts at AFL matches.
The Melbourne Cricket Club is paid by the AFL for the use of the ground which then approximately balances with the money paid back so that MCC members can view the AFL games for free.
Oops did I say free, I forgot about that debt. Full MCC members pay $519 a year and rising, most of which goes to pay interest on that debt.
At grand final time, Full MCC members are virtually guaranteed to get in because the AFL almost always guarantees at least one interstate club playing.
That guarantee will not hold if two Victorian clubs play.
The MCC has control of about 22,000 seats and 1,000 standing and 60,000 full members.
That means the AFL has control of the other 75,000 tickets to distribute as it sees fit.
Last year the AFL only allocated 21,000 of the 75,000 AFL tickets to the competing club members.
AFL policy to divide these 21,000 tickets in the ratio of the competing clubs membership numbers meant that Geelong members got all of 9,600 of the 75,000 AFL tickets.
The AFL has contractual obligations for the other 54,000 tickets.
If the AFL hopes come true that would mean 12,100 of the 75,000 tickets would have been available to Geelong members.
Club members who are not also social club members can forget about ever seeing their club play in an AFL grand final.
My sister attended the 1966 grand final as a guest, a guest of a St Kilda club member who had guaranteed grand final seats.
Is it any wonder that the MCC has a waiting list of 175,000. At the present progress rate that is only a 40 year wait to become one of 40,000 restricted members, and restricted members are not expected to gain access to see grand finals!
The AFL will never again take care of football club members, not with 49,000 or 54,000 tickets going to AFL “special interest groupsâ€

This for me is the most annoying thing about being just your average club member.

AFL members? Better known as AFL dupes.
AFL gold members or dupes were supposed to have guaranteed access to grand finals whereas silver members were like restricted dupes with access to everything except the grand final.
Silver were waiting patiently their turn to become gold.
Did I say dupes?
Yes I did.
Because members have a vote!
Dupes do not get a vote.
The AFL does not allow anyone a vote.
The AFL sets the rules and AFL dupes have to lump it.
Then the AFL reneged on gold grand final access with no refund of the up front joining fees.
Now you have to guess one of the teams that will play in the grand final and claim to be a supporter.
If you guess right you will get guaranteed access to the grand final.
The AFL created the Medallion club – they are the people who leave empty seats on level 2 at Telstra Dome whilst football club members sit in outer space on level 3 and can’t get even get in unless they have reserved a seat for an all ticketed game.
The AFL decided that the Medallion Club could queue jump all gold dupes and silver dupes, no waiting lists and be guaranteed access to any grand final.
Gold dupes good luck.
The AFL dupes had no say and no vote.
Meanwhile Melbourne Cricket Club full members get to vote on all decisions.

No one forces you to be a member. I am a member and think it isnt great deal but I can get out at any time. Why complain do you have to pay. No. By the way i have been to the last 7 GF so it hasnt been to hard to get a ticket through the AFL.ace wrote:AFL members? Better known as AFL dupes.

Why do the AFL need to sell memberships? They make enough profit to pay their CEO and others huge bonuses.
Easy solution, scrap the tickets given to AFL and medellion members who do not nominate either of the two clubs that participate. This would free up a large amount of tickets to go to supporters who follow their club with everything you have.
Currently it's all about money money and more money.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

But the rent isn't meeting the principal & interest on the capital costs. MCC members pay $500+ every year to meet the shortfall. Some of the 60,000 MCC members get to go to the GF and get the benefit of their $500+ (every year) contribution. But most don't.Eastern wrote:I still can't get my head around the fact that 22,000 MCC members get into the GF.
If you rent a house, you don't allow the landlord to use the Master bedroom with the ensuite. Why should the AFL allow the MCC in for free? They are paying the rent !!
I'm an MCC member, and got to go to the '97 GF in my first year of membership. I've been to a few since, but the novelty has worn off. I don't find the GF that captivating with all of the the kitch entertainment. But if St Kilda was playing I'd be there in a flash. It would probably have cost me $1,000+/year for the GFs I have attended. So I think I pay my way!

Agree its only probably $25,000,000 dollars a year. Why would they need that. Lets go back to the way it was with nearly all clubs broke. After all as if clubs really need the 1.6 million a year they get out of AFL members. Lets see what clubs would exist without that money, the pies, Essendon alll interstate clubs. That sounds like a good competition.Solar wrote:Why do the AFL need to sell memberships? They make enough profit to pay their CEO and others huge bonuses.

And even forgetting that lets just tell the 60000 members they are not members anymore. That would go down well.

Grand final tickets should be allocated on the basis of how many games you attend of the finalists in the home and away season. The more games you see the higher your priority.
Wondering if this information is on some database somewhere, where each time you scan your membership card, it gets logged and tallied.

i work for an organisation where saturdays are their busiest day, and thus have to work. so if we play 6 saturday home games, i am likey to miss 5. does it mean i love the saints less and shouldnt be entitled to a ticket? i surely dont think so.

in a perfect world tickets for the G/F would be available to every member of the two compeating teams (you would find with interstate members and interstate teams that might make the GF there would be unused tickets to sell to the genral public) after it would make supporter become members if they were to get a ticket to the GF if their team makes it. cut the ticket numbers given to the other non compeating teams after all a member of a compeating team would get more out of the ticket then a member of a non compeating team . as for MCC members if they want tix for the gf they should have to be members of a footy club first to get their tix
