Where are they now?
Anyone thought of doing a book on St Kilda players, like the encyclopaedia of players and including a snap shot of them as a player, and then what they are up to current day, like that John Favier article.
Would be a great read.
Maybe we could get it going ourselves off this forum.

The Launceston 'Examiner' caught up with one - todays paper
Apted still proud after 50 years
By ROB SHAW
LEAGUE infighting and a timely downpour conspired to earn Roy Apted the highlight of his football career.
The Legana grandfather was a member of the Tasmanian side that became the most successful to compete at a national carnival in 1958 and is to be inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame half-a- century later.
Tasmania's Centenary National Carnival outfit has been selected as the fourth legendary team to be inducted on July 4 at a gala function at Wrest Point.
"The Tasmanian team of 1958 was clearly the best from this State to participate in a national competition," the team's manager Keith Dickenson said.
Reflecting on the achievement yesterday, Apted, who is a grandfather of four and will turn 71 on Anzac Day, revealed that he had the TFL to thank for him being in the Tasmanian side.
Having played under St Kilda great Jim Ross at North Launceston, Apted was set to join the Saints but the TFL held up his clearance because of an unofficial approach by the club.
"In the long run that was lucky for me because it meant I could play for Tasmania at the 1958 carnival and also won North's best and fairest that year," said the son of a Pioneer tin miner.
"We weren't given a lot of hope to win much at the carnival but we gave ourselves a good chance."
After an upset loss to a Victorian VFA side driven by future North Launceston coach Bob Withers, Tasmania was trailing to a West Australia side spearheaded by Polly Farmer when the heavens opened.
"When it started to rain we thought `this is us'. We liked the wet weather and had some great players in the wet. I thought playing in that brought everyone back to our pace," Apted said.
"We played some good football and ended up beating them. After that we thought if we can beat Western Australia, we can beat South Australia, and we did, by two points.
"That was a bit of a shock to many but they forget that the guys we had were bloody good footballers."
Although the team was humbled by the mighty Vics in its final game, Apted placed the carnival on a par with a subsequent semi-final he played with St Kilda against Footscray in front of 94,000 spectators.
"1958 was probably my best year. Winning the best and fairest and getting selection for Tasmania among all those stars. You never forget those things."
The ruck-rover played alongside fellow Tasmanians Darrel Baldock, Robbie Hay, Verdun Howell, Graeme Lee, Peter Delanty and "the best player I ever saw" Ian Stewart in five years with St Kilda in a deliberate policy pioneered by the club's secretary Ian Drake, formerly of City-South.
"I went there because Jim Ross had come from St Kilda and said `you are not going anywhere else'," he said.
After 44 games and one goal, Apted returned to Tasmania in 1964, working as a timber inspector, confectionary salesman and general store owner and celebrates 50 years of marriage to Val next year.

There was a "coming soon" notice on Saints Central that foreshadowed what you are talking about, although it didn't say how much detail would be provided on the players.SENsaintsational wrote:Anyone thought of doing a book on St Kilda players, like the encyclopaedia of players and including a snap shot of them as a player, and then what they are up to current day, like that John Favier article.

Peanut, I want to take this chance to publicly thank you for all the work you've obviously done on the past players in the West of Moorabbin site. It's obviously an enormous amount of work to find the games played, height, weight etc ... but to be able to tell us the player's number, that's the one I love the most.
I often feel ignorant about past players, but I always go to West of Moorabbin as my first resource when someone mentions a player I don't know.
Enrico ... would you mind actually telling me about the player Enrico... I know virtually nothing about him. By his stats, he seems tall and thin. Can you tell me any more?
Cheers
Mark

It's great... wonderful. I'll spend many an hour on that site.
I like the way you can search either first name or last name.
And I also like the way it often tells you about the person, or at least the position they played.
I do genuinely think it's terrific - but ... it's got teething problems. E.g. I looked up Geoff Ablett (I was starting with the A's, you see) and there's repetition of the same sentence:
--
He won his clearance to Richmond on appeal after a protracted dispute, but knee and hamstring injuries restricted his appearances. Trying to trim their budget, the Tigers traded him to St Kilda. My other comment has to do with the photos. It's a little wierd looking on a Saints site, and seeing a lot of our former players being shown in the jerseys of teams they previously played for. I mean, in the 80s we traded for a lot of players from other teams that were (arguably) well past their prime. So, for instance, I looked up Rene Kink. And the first two photos of him (before you click on the 'more photos' button) are in Collingwood jumpers. You can find a few St. Kilda ones on the next page, if you click the more photos button... but it just seemed odd that our website has more photos of one of our former players in other team's jerseys than in ours.
Dean Anderson is another example that I looked up. He has a lot more Hawthorn photos than Saints ones.
Alex Marcou only has Carlton photos - no Saints ones. He did play 24 games for us over 2 seasons, however.
Peter McConville has only 1 Saints photo (though he played 56 games with us) whereas he has 7 Carlton ones (there is one other photo but it wouldn't open in my computer).
I guess they are being historically accurate - these players did play for other clubs, often for most of their careers - but still, I kinda felt it is SAINTS Central, and I expected that photos of our jerseys would be the first ones we see. I suppose the photos come from places like Scanlens or the AFL and you have to rely on the sources available to you.
Oh well, I am probably being too picky. I do appreciate all the effort that's gone into the Saints Central website - I think it's a wonderful thing, much appreciated!

REIGNING Baldock Medal winner Kurt Heazlewood will be in the middle of the action when he makes his long-awaited return for Devonport in tomorrow's NTFL match of round.
Heazlewood had had a delayed start after completing a two-game suspension incurred in last year's preliminary final.
In a twist of fate Devonport plays Ulverstone tomorrow and they were the combatants in the 2007 preliminary final, a game won easily by the Robins.
Heazlewood's reappearance is one of three changes made by the Magpies with former Hobart player Adam Eastley named on the interchange along with Jeremy Smith won played one game last year.
