IN: M.Gards, C.Gards, C.Jones

OUT: Blake, X, Gilbo

B: L.Fisher Max Geary
HB: Monty S.Fisher B J
C: Roo Hayes Gram
HF: Schnieder Kosi C.Gardiner
F: Milne Gehrig C.Jones

R: M.Gards, Ball, Dal.

I/C: Harvey, Fiora, King, R.Clarke

EMG X, Gilbo, Armo

Wanted to mix things up a bit, its all about quick delivery. Get Gram the ball on the wing so that when he has a few bounces the sticks are in sight. Also gets him away from defence. Which is hugely important.

Roo on wing, well he has a huge tank so lets use it. He is the captain, let him be everywhere, loose man in defence. Taking grabs in the corridor and drifting forward. He can't be double teamed out there.

C.Jones, well if we kick it long as least there is someone who is quick who can chase and tackle and put pressure on the ball carrier out of defence.

C.Gards, does what Roo does without being double teamed, runs hard provides a contest, Roo and Gram running past on wings to flick off to.

Okay, I'm dropping Blake, X and Gilbo. X is my tough call and it hurts but take him down and it will really wake him up. Same as what happened to Goddard in his breakout season. If we want X to develop then he needs to be dropped.

Blake. You just can't turn it over in those positions of the field. His opponents ran riot today.

Gilbo, this also hurts as I believe he has been played out of position, he is a natural wingman or forward in my opinion, however; if its a long term development strategy as a great full back, then let him learn it in the 2's.

I'm looking for a bit of discussion. [/list]

I think Gilbo played well.....he tried all night, I wouldn't drop him.

I'd be looking at those that gave up.

I'd say drop whoever played on Hill.....but I never saw any1 on him, maybe that was the problem, I think he was running in our backline, switching on Milne, then running off him, Milne never chased. If so smart move by Eade as always, Milne gets a run in the Magoos.

Gehrig never had the ball delivered right, G had a crack, but like all forwards these days if the delivery isn't perfect, they havent't got a chance, he stays.

I honestly think Dal needs a wake up call, he seemed to be sulking when he was dragged, didn't seem to care.

I don't wana say it, but maybe he needs a week to think it all through.

Cause if were to go anywhere this year, he would be our major midfielder in our run to september.

Interesting changes Karnak, our balance isn't right at the moment and I agree with some of your suggestions. Our 3 pronged tall attack is good on paper and appeared to work for a quarter last night, but when the delivery isn't optimal and the ball hits the deck it comes out too easy.

Gehrig & Kosi are too big/slow to pressure the defenders which is where Charlie Gardner and Clint Jones can make a difference. Their speed and physical presence would have made a difference last night. Gardner in particular provides another lead-up option that only Roo is doing at the moment. The only problem with Jones is who does he replace as Milne and Schneider have performed alright so far.

I agree that for us to have Gehrig & Kosi as forwards then Roo should play further up the ground. His aerobic capacity could be used better in a rotating midfield/forward role, much like what Pavlich did a few years back. Roo is very fit but Morris played him well last night as we were too predictable going forward. Only 2 key forwards are needed, particularly at the Dome as they get in each others work space.

I agree that Gilbert is a more creative attacking player than a stopper and should be played in a wing/midfield role. With BJ returning there is pressure on Gilbert to retain his place in defence, but a place in the midfield rotations could be where he fits the team structure best. Our midfield got pantsed after 1/4 time last night, Gilbert has got pace and is a grat tackler and could provide an option to relieve the pressure we were exposed to last night. I think that he could also run with an opponent in the midfield which would fast track his development.

As far as X goes I would leave him in, he has played well this year and sometimes you can learn a lot from a loss but not if you are in the reserves. I agree about Blake being dropped as we have a multitude of utility types (BJ, Gilbert, Raph, C Gardner) who have more flexibility than he offers.

Its a tricky one but our balance is not right at the moment and is reflecting in our performances. For mine Geary and Blake may be the ones who gets dropped, with M Gardner and G Gardner to come in. Positional changes in the side rather than wholesale dropping of players is more important at the moment.

So we want to drop X, whos been in our best 5 players both weeks so far IMHO, who only this time last week we were saying had finally "arrived"?

In case you hadnt noticed, in terms of pure leg speed, we are treacle-slow. By modern AFL standards, in our side lasst night we had about 3-4 blokes you could consider pacy. Not blistering even, just pacy. X is right at the top of that list, along with Grammy, Joey, Schneider and maybe Milne.

No X wasnt great last night but neither were about 18 of his teammates. We cannot consider dropping him against a side that, if they get going, make the Bulldogs look like a pack of carthorses. His tackling is very important too

Yes give him a rocket, but gotta keep him in the side.

Your not going to get a dramatic turn around getting rid of some of these players week by week unless you have bloke like this to replace them.
It's the team effort that needs to be looked at more than anything else after yesterdays result.
