Goal Kicking Mids
Simple we don't kick anywhere near enough goals from our midfield so if our talls are held we are stuffed.
That's where we was beaten tonight.
That is all

Re: Goal Kicking Mids
would help if they backed themselves and took a shot occasionally rather than always looking for riewoldt

Most of our midfielders can't kick. Ball and Hayes are ball-winners but shocking kicks, Joey's kicking has deteriorated and Nick Dal Santo is now a half-back flanker picking up junk disposals.
What has happened to Gram's kicking. He's kicking a lot of mongrels this year.
Brendon Goddard is a beautiful kick.
Sam Gilbert showed promise last year but is jammed on the backline. Not convinced by that move, I guess they have to plug the gaps. Come back Matt Maguire.

IMO we dont need goal kicking fowards on ceratin grounds because we have enough size, power, presence and ability in our foward 50 for the goals we need to win a game of football.
But if we are having a s**t night like tonight we need these boys to stand up. People like harves and lenny, been round the club for ages but they dont nearly kick enough goals would kuick less than 15 between them.
Geary last week went foward and would not even take a shot at goal whether it be lack of confidence or what. JUST TAKE A SHOT its gonna let us in the stands know that you meen buisness.
And like some have said our mids cant kick and to an extent that is ture. Grammy's (who IMO should be considered another mid in this day and age) set up kicks into the foward 50 and gradually getting worse and worse. Lenny's clearences (yes we did win some tonight )
tonight were crap just bombing it long to space and letting roo (our only big running foward) run on and try to set something up. The only one with an accurate, consistant kick is harvey and he never takes shots anymore. He is like geary with his goal kicking always looking for someone else to give it off to. and gram tonight ran foward 3 or 4 times and could have set up or goaled, but just stopped and dished of to someone with a less penatrating, less accurate kick.

It's getting so bad that it's starting to look like richmonds deliverance to richo *shudders*.
But we have the following players whose main job it is to kick goals.......
Gehrig
Kosi
Riewoldt
Milne
Schneider
It wasn't because the midfield didn't kick enough goals that we lost, it was because they didn't win enough ball and then use it effectively to deliver enough opportunities to the above mentioned to kick a potentially winning score.
All in all a miserable team performance. Only Sam Fisher and perhaps Brendon Goddard can say that they win their matchups tonight.
Those two aside none of the other players were hard enough with their attack on the footy.
We missed Bakes tonight (Thommo, Peckett and Powell would have been handy too). No toughness whatsoever in the midfield.

A team needs to be versatile. Our midfielders are so hesitant to kick goals on the run that it is almost embarrassing to watch. 'One trick pony' teams don't win premierships. It is not good enough to rely on your forwards only. Especially when they are being beaten or teams double up on them. We do not have one midfielder who takes the opposition on and kicks 50m goals on the run. To make matters worse, many lack that explosive pace that the modern game requires, not to mention hardness/toughness. Last night the Bulldogs midfield made most of our players look very bad with no answers/countermeasures whatsoever. The fact they couldn't regroup after half-time speaks for itself.Richter wrote:But we have the following players whose main job it is to kick goals.......

My husband, who is as avid a Hawthorn supporter as I am a Saints supporter, keeps saying why don't they have a shot when they are on or inside 50, any footballer worth his weight could kick a goal from 50 when he was playing, yet these young guys won't even try. Maybe we need some one to concentrate on teaching them how to kick a goal.

Every footballer (few exceptions) that plays, should be able to kick a goal from 40+ out. The fact that a large majority of our team can't, is a disgrace.RoseInOz wrote:My husband, who is as avid a Hawthorn supporter as I am a Saints supporter, keeps saying why don't they have a shot when they are on or inside 50, any footballer worth his weight could kick a goal from 50 when he was playing, yet these young guys won't even try. maybe we need some one to concentrtae on teaching them how to kick a goal.
The other thing that irks me lately is the obvious lack of talk on ground (especially warning when a team mate is going to be run down from behind,) and the number of times players "sold" a team mate into trouble by handballing when the team mate was so obviously under pressure.
