Dear Sir,
Please understand we are not the Sydney Swans. Neither are we that rabble you played for Fitzroy, where losing almost seemed acceptable.
Our strength is our attack.
The Swans strength is their defense. Try to understand we are not them, and should not be coached like them.
I hardly think that the reason we are not as good as we were in 2004 is because we no longer have Guerra, Penny, Thompson, Peckett and Powell.
It's simple, the coaching.
in 2004 we attacked, and attacked and attacked. We were not satisfied with just winning, we were not satisfied until the final siren and we had annihilated our opposition. So many supporters think of those days and remember the hidings we handed out. Please don't let those just be memories. Restricting some sides with defense alone may work against some of the teams in the competition, but unfortunately not the better ones.
Is it a credo now that we are not allowed to kick more than a certain number of goals a game?
Riewoldt, Koschitzke, Gehrig, unlike teams like Melbourne or Carlton we have a forward line.
Mr Lyon, USE IT.
This thread is no slight on the players, they can only play as they are coached. Everyone knows they do the best they can.

Rubbish - did you watch the first quarter? That's exactly what we did.
After that - well we were smashed in the midfield. You can't use the forwards if you don't win any of the hard ball in the midfield.
Yes, RL was beaten after quarter time - but he can't take all the responsibility for many many SOFT performances in the midfield. The players have to look themselves in the eye and feel ashamed. We lost virtually all the contested ball in the middle (in fact everywhere on the park) after Q time.

In 2004, we won the clearances, in 2004 we were tough around the ball so other teams could not score freely, in 2004 we did try to move te ball quickly to our forwards so that they could score. We started to play like this last year in the second half of the season bar a few fade outs.
Last week Ross was happy that we were starting to move the ball quicker and scoring. He would not be happy by the lack of player accountability this week but he still wants to improve goal scoring. He made comments last year about the need for the midfield to be of more service in this regard.
Kicking the ball to three talls as the only forward play is fraught with risk that it rebounds as quickly as it was delivered.
Variability is the key but with speed.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

So to you guys our players are worse than they were in '04-'05?
Please.
When did we play like '04 last year? Which games? The one where we beat Carlton by 10 points?
We don't beat Carlton by 10 points, we beat them by 10 goals plus every game, so much so I could wager on us doing that.
The players can only do what the coach says. I really don't believe the players wanted to play how we did against Sydney Rd 1 and Hawthorn last year.
If an amateur like GT can point our players in the right direction why can't a pro?
Please.
