I think that a softly-softly approach is the way to go. For a guy that hasn't played much footy since '05 it's a big step up. I'd rather him ready and firing to go against Geelong, and we can use King and Koschitzke in the Ruck this week.

The rumour is a calf strain, and in that case he would probably be out for 2-3 weeks. I still think King and Kosi would be able to break even with Ottens and Blake though.

Ottens won't be around next week.

I heard it was a stress fracture in the foot, or something similar (rather than the sprained ankled that Geelong were saying) - and possibly another 7 weeks on the boundary line.

Also Matthew Egan possibly won't be seeing any action this season.

Charlie Gardiner is a workhorse who runs and runs all day to provide an option at half forward. His skills are very limited but he is in the AFL because of his workrate...Goddard plays as a loose go-to man in defence so he he use his brilliant kicking to best advantage.

How is that similar?

True in theory, but from expierience watching geelong reserves last year and his career in the seniors before that i have seemed to notice they are similar.

I would need to see them play in the same team a couple of times to make a final judgement.
Please define similar?

They play at opposite ends of the ground. They have opposite skillsets. Their styles of play ... well... given teh above, they're kind of hard to compare...

I'll be first to admit the only things I hear of Charlie in the reserves last year was that he was good, but not good enough to displace AA Steve Johnson - what did he do in the reserves that was Goddard like?

MG is a great ruckmen and will be in our best 22 when super fit, but is he really at this point in time? it is a great ruck combo with King and Gardiner but for someone that has played 10 or 11 games in 3 years, he only has his past to fall back on, If Tony Lockett came back, would he be in our best 22? no, he would have to prove it, i rate MG, dont get me wrong but it just shows how hungry and healthy our list finally is

Raph Clarke in.

Eagleton out.

Obviously not a swap, but i'm not sure who is out for us, and who is in for them.

Well that sounds crazy. They lost Higgins and need Eagleton. As for the Gardiner rumour we have heard nothing. Not to say we would have as I didn't even ask but take these rumours with a grain of salt unless they come from someone we know is reliable. Will find out soon and we'll beat em in any case.

Interesting news....

I hope this isnt a sign of things to come for MG, him missing games for whatever reason.

The rumour is its a calf but it could be anything knowing the club and the player in question.

Will be interesting to see how long he is out for as of now.

Gardigirl, relax already. Your agenda is not welcome here.
