I have managed to get in contact with my old uni friend - Associate Prof. Dietrich Asslich, who is in the middle of writing his latest thesis entitled "A Saints Flag - Existential Post Modern Possibility or Urban Myth?" - should be interesting reading but he is only on the first page...

BTW As part of his research, Assoc Prof. Asslich has discovered some interesting Germanic linguistic origins for two Saints players:

Riewoldt: a timid and highly emotional breed of Bavarian turtle which waits to stick its neck out from its "tunnel" home, only when it knows that all danger has passed.

Koschitzke: an ancient Swabian form of road marking similar to a modern day witches hat - although its function in ancient times was purely ceremonial.

Needless to say the professor is a Carlton fan.
