Relations not picture perfect
Winds of charge always bring dissension and at the Sunday Herald Sun I hear an email has been circulated about the pos­sible use of union action in the near future. Things will come to a head in the next couple of weeks over one writer coming on board for an unusually high fee and not producing the goods.
Meanwhile, accredita­tion for league games is becoming harder to get for journalists and this year there was a dispute over press conference access and the use of photographs, which can be on-sold to other organisations.
####Talks are contin­uing between The Age, AAP and the AFL. It’s all about licence fees. The way the AFL is going, you won’t be able to take a photo of your favourite player on your mobile phone without having to pay a licence fee.

A lawyer friend of mind reckons if the issue is ever taken to court in a restraint of trade case it would be very interesting indeed and despite all its blustering the AFL could end up with egg on its face.

That's all it is. The AFL hates that it's not controlling the revenue streams from images taken at AFL matches.

Quite frankly, I think it's a disgrace.
