crowded foward line
Our foward line is way to crowded.
we have 3 big talls and 2 smalls and IMO it does not help when you have little fellas like steven milne jumping for big marks rather than playing his role on the ground.
He is excellent on the ground you just had to see when he won the ball in the first quarter on the flank and turn his opponent inside out, shame he missed it though.
If we have the smae thing happening again such as kosi being held well we should move him out onto the wing and be somewhat of a link up man for grammy, maxy and fish to kick to.
Rooey and g were excellnt and they are the main fowards in out team IMO so we cant move them, but kosi is such a big mobile unit he can play anywhere.
I think the dome is too smaller a ground to be playing to quality small fowards i.e milne and schnieder. People look at this a s a bonus but in the end it is a hidden disadvantage because you have to goal orientated fowards and not someone that can run with there player up the ground and also kick goals.
thoughts?

Bad delivery, disjointed link ups through the centre and sometimes simply taking far too long to get it down there.
I guess the worry is with our forward line, that it's been like this for 12 months now.
Yeah i saw countless times midfielders and sometimes gram give poor delivery but i guess you have to be thankful and be happy that we dont have to put up with the delivery richo gets from his midfielders.
Absoloute crap. Makes richo look very bad when i think hes an outstanding player on his day.

Re: crowded foward line
if it allows us to kick 125 points and win by 40 (with eight separate goal-kickers) it is doing its job.
personally i'd have kosi at chf, gehrig at ff and allow roo to roam the forward line at his own discretion.
it is a dangerous and potent mix and it is no co-incidence that the main topic of discussion among the western bulldogs fans this week is how do we stop st kilda's tall forwards.

they are on the back foot about it already.
but this has all been covered ad naseum elsewhere such as in "what's wrong with kosi" ... incidentally, as rodgerfox pointed out, a good very thread.

Yes, i hear you but what about when we come up against the likes of geelong?
They have so many good backs that can/already have shown that they can hold our fowards.
I suppose the point im truely trying to make in this is that we are a big foward line driven by big men so the ball is going to come in high so there isnt much spot for the little guys unless they are willing to do there job and from what i saw on saturday night milney was going for marks he shouldnt be, but also played a good game and schnieder went missing in the middle stages kicked 2.3 or 1.3 i think.

Re: crowded foward line
the beauty of having a guy like kosi down there is that it allows you to kick long and direct to a contest (rather than purely having to find riewoldt or gehrig laces up on the lead every time).saint edward wrote:the ball is going to come in high so there isnt much spot for the little guys
on saturday that's where the smaller guys come into it. milne (4), xavier (3) and schneider (2) made themselves more than useful.
there is no guarantee that this tall forward set up is going to win us every game, but since we were the lowest scoring side in the entire competition last season my question to you is "what do we have to lose?"

Yes very well put.
My fear in the end of all this is that its going to start to become to predictable just like when even my dad who isnt the biggest football fan could tell st kildas game plan.
Its working now but im looking 10, 20 or finals time into the future.

Re: crowded foward line
it couldn't possibly be as predictable as the kick-it-to-roo-and-fraser plan of the recent past.saint edward wrote:My fear in the end of all this is that its going to start to become to predictable just like when even my dad who isnt the biggest football fan could tell st kildas game plan. but i know what you're getting at. it is about having many avenues to goal rather than just a few, so in that sense it won't be so predictable.
if one guy is down on a particular night another will bob up and become the danger man.
to go off on a bit of a tangent and to use a cricket analogy, shane warne's bowling was predictable. batsmen knew he had a wrong 'un and a top-spinner and a flipper as well as his stock leg break.
... but you still had to play them and keep them out. often they couldn't

yeah i dont see it being that predictable.
But now teams study there opponents right through the week and i can just see it working against us in there near future.
Football now is a very different game to only 10 years ago.
Even i could tell that when i was watching the saints 97 year in review on video a couple of days ago. alot more attack then.
So i think we have to move our fowards around alot more around the ground.
I noticed that roo played in the square for the first half and g in it the second, but g was too easily conned into o'ailpin (however you spell his name) takeing him up the ground.
