Carltoon's Banner
Can't see where anybody has mentioned this before. If so, apologies and delete this thread.
But I can't not let it go unnoticed, the Carltoon Banner was one of the most disgusting banners I've seen at the footy with it's tunnelling reference.
Has anyone got a photo?
Should be reproduced on our banner the next time we play them, or used as motivation by Ross before the game.
Hate the pr1cks.

Speaking of tunnelling etc. did anyone notice BBBH get his legs taken out from under him in a marking contest yesterday? Given his comments from earlier in the week it was quite comical.
In response to your point Grumpy, I think someone mentioned it at some stage, but I agree & given that our CS claim they are restricted in what they can say on the banner, I would assume Carlton will be sent a please explain. Mind you, I think we well & truly tunnelled them anyway.

Can't say I noiticed since their cheersquad got it onto the ground all of 2 seconds before their players... it was up, ripped and down in a hurry.
So they had a cheap snide slogan, barely got out there in time... but hey, they had matching jackets

Q. How do you stop the saints from marching in?
A. Take their legs from under them?
To tell you the truth I like it, it was a little snide comment on the opposition club. Obviously I don't appreciate that it was against us but I think this sets a precedent in what we can and can not say on a banner.
Next time we play them something along the lines of Tanks for 11 on the trot would go quite nicely...

I'm not offended by it at all, but it's about as amusing as a joke out of a christmas cracker... they could try focusing on team spirit or something maybe?my les foote wrote:The only banner in the last 10 years that has been even mildly amusing and everyone is up in arms.
The only thing Carlton has done well in the last five years. You have to give them some credit.
Their cheer squad was even trying to start a mexican wave for about 10 minutes in the last quarter ffs... I'll give em credit for jack shyte.

i thought it was good, i had a little laugh
i wish our cheer squad had the balls to put something even slightly amusing/controversial/witty/good on our banners
funnily enough tho, judging by last weeks banner, none of the cheer squad actually know what a St.Kilda football jumper looks like....
i think we're now 2 - nil down in the cheer squad stakes after the first 2 rounds

I was the poster who said that saintbrat. I thought it was funny and ballsy - I don't think it was a dig at us, more at the whole tunneling fiasco anyway. To be honest, I think tunneling is bulls*** anyway and they are just emphasising that. Like saintbrat said, each to their own. It certainly was appropriate circumstancially, but behaviourly I don't think it was. I still thought it was good though. I thikn some people here are taking it too seriously. But fair enough. I liked it.

Don't banners need to be approved by Dimwit or the Gimp at the AFL? Where's Dooley when you need him?Armoooo wrote:Q. How do you stop the saints from marching in?

As I understand it, the wording on the banners now has to be approved by the AFL.
Saintdooley - please confirm.
And I believe that came about as a result of a fantastic banner from the Melbourne cheer squad which they proudly unveiled at the SCG.
This was in the mid nineties when the AFL were at their height of pampering the Sydney Parasites.
It read ...
SHAME SYDNEY SHAME
YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO THE GAME
Then the forces of political correctness / censorship brought down the curtain on free speech.
