Jumper number 4
I note that this number has not been allocated. If we forget most of the 1980s (pretty easy to do I must admit), most of the wearers of this number have been champions, the most recent being no exception.
It seems that Andrew Thompson has just slipped away without the send off he deserves. Is anything planned?

He wore 14 for most of it and changed to the number 4 later on.
I think he won the brownlow wearing number 14.
Re: Jumper number 4
True, true... I couldn't remember what year he changed over and couldn't readily find the info available so just went with it, but was proved to be wrong. So be it.saint edward wrote:st_nick wrote:That's being a bit unfair on Plugger isn't it?perfectionist wrote:If we forget most of the 1980s, most of the wearers of this number have been champions,

There's been a few players at the club who've changed numbers in recent times as well, hasn't there? I know X and Kosi both had their new numbers presented to them when Burkey and Buckets retired respectively.

I have heard Thommo say he offered and no one wanted- with a little jest but maybe it will come.perfectionist wrote:I note that this number has not been allocated. found this snippett- ( which I am pleased about-building on the tradition of the club- budiling a tradition- keeping former players involved,)
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 32,00.htmlVoss, who retired from football at the end of 2007, was part of a group of former players who handed out guernseys to St Kilda's first-gamers last Saturday. He admits it was moving to see Gardiner finally running out in the red, white and black for the first time.
I too would love to see the club do something to honour those who retired-- not a forced or ongoing farewell- ala hird and Bickley and Sheedy having a whole game in June or something ,
but just a wander round the ground, not just vision on the screen- many don't get in in time to see these unless done at half time.
but other clubs I guess due to thier success seem to be able to maintain their former players around the club and keep them proud of having been there much better than we do-
*** that said Cowboy and co do a marvellous job .

we now have several young guys coming through- maybe Someone like Geary or Eddy or Steven will further develop over the year and feel themselves worthy of that No.4perfectionist wrote:Not much support for Thomo getting a bigger send off. I thought he was a fantastic player - 100% effort who really worked on and improved his skills, not up himself and a real team player. If you're into role models, he would have been it.
So, who will (should?) wear number 4 next?
