Lenny's comeback

Post: # 539215Post perfectionist »

Most players take a good 12 months to fully recover from knee reconstructions and then another 6 months or so to get the confidence and strength back into kicking. And so it has been for Lenny (injured round 10 (?) 2006).

Now, he is on the ground for most of the time and as the pace of the game recedes he gets better and better (foot speed is not his strength). There are good signs that he is developing a connection with both new ruckmen and he and the other midfielders will continue to grow in this department.

It will no news to most Saints supporters, but Lenny is a fantastic player for the club, in all respects.

And for those calling for the early recall of BJ, they should bear this in mind. Mind you, no-one, and I mean no-one, in the history of the game has worked harder on recovery than BJ.

Lenny Hayes is in our top 3 most important players in my opinion, this became more evident when he did his knee and we really struggled for the rest of the year. Until then i thought yeah, Lenny's a gun midfielder but didn't really appreciate just how important he was.
But if you actually just focus on Lenny for a quarter or see how many clearances occur through Lenny's presence, you start to gain an idea on the sort of player he is.
While he might not be the flashy type with the incredible disposal, he's the one who initially sets up the pay with the quick handball or solid tackle. He makes such a difference to our team and acts as a true leader and after seeing how much his injury cost us, i know i'll never take watching a player like Lenny Hayes for granted again.

He is a star. There aren't too many in this side that work harder than him.

Lenny was awesome lastnight.....not fleet of foot.....but so skilled and talented that he doesn't need it.

I had him BOG.....i felt his work through packs and getting the ball to his teammates was fantastic.

maybe I saw the game different and I do mark him higher but I thought last night was not a great game from lenny. He double grabbed at balls, his handballing was shocking. Also he looked slow. After a awesome game the week before this was a little bit of a let down. But he is in our best 3.

i thought he had a great game.
granted he had 4 clangers but when u get 10 clearances and 28 touches throw in 3 tackles and 4 inside 50's i think thats a reasonable night out.

He had a great game and while he wasn't as clean as he could be and made a few clangers he has to get his hands on the ball first. His worth to the team is priceless and his inside work is evidence of that. He looks life he's set for a big year and is continuing on from his real strong second half of last year.
