Cats
Went to the match....they were awesome. Put Essendon right back to the drawing board! Can't wait for Round 4 to have a crack at them.
But also very very fearful! Better than last year...two new guys, Gamble and Taylor easily replacing Nathan Ablett and Egan!
Anyone elss go?

yep. it must burn in the guts of riewoldt, dal santo, ball, kosi, goose, bj, fraser, milne and anyone else who was around in 2004 that the cats have a premiership and they don't.Cairnsman wrote:You wait, this could be the game to fire up the Saints. It is common in most sports that when a team plays against poor opposition they are usually dragged down to thier oppositions level and I believe that was evident last night. I bet the boys have been looking foward to round 4 all summer.
our guys know they have something to prove and first blood against the cats in 2008 would really lay down the gauntlet

Wasn't it great to see Essendon get done by close to 100 points .
Maybe now all the hype about them will die back down cos thay are not that good.
Cats and Demons next week........we could see a new all time record winning margin and score by Geelong!
How scarey is that..lol
Back in '85 I remember seeing us getting the floggings in the first 3 rounds of the year.....nice to see someone else relieve us of that record.

If we get within 5 goals of them we would be doing well based on current form.
If we somehow really lift and fire up against the doggies who knows it might be a contest, but to beat them, well, that's a few extra levels up and massive ask IMO.

While our game will be interesting I can't wait to see the outcome of Melbourne versus Geelong. If Geelong play like they did today and Melbourne like they did yesterday a 200 point margin is a possibility with Geelong a chance to beat the record highest score. However, these things just never seem to happen. It'll be interesting to see Melbourne's odds. Could push out to near 10$.
Nevertheless, a big win and maybe we could see a bit of complaceancy when we play them. I just hope we don't get in the scenario where shocks them and suprises them and come out against us really fired up and with a point to prove where they take out their anger on us. Luckily, I can't see Melbourne doing anything to shock Geelong.

Mmmm dunno about that. The Saintsational Man wrote:After watching them today.....all i can say is we have beat them at their own game.....simple
If we don't run and run and run.....we won't have a chance
IMO I don't think we have the running ability, fitness or cohesion under RL yet to take them on at their own game.
If we did that, IMO we'd lose say 20 goals to 15.
Or we could lock them down like we did against the Swans ... make the game 10-12 goals each side and let it come down to a couple of lucky kicks either way.

Completely meaningless, but anything in a dull day.
I think we've got a chance. All year so far we've played at the same level as the opposition. It is uncertain whether we'll be able to keep up with Geelong, but we've got no injuries and no excuses.
