Its not spreading as fast as the great global warming scare tactic/scam.evertonfc wrote:McMansionvillism is spreading from the plains to the mountains.riccardo wrote:I won't be at home at all this weekend, but, without wishing to get into the debate, I would not participate even if I was.

What I don't get is the whole carbon offsetting crap. They buy a tree and plant it somewhere? The tree already exists, it is already in the ground somewhere, its not an man-made thing, it is still doing its job. All they are doing is, really, relocating a tree.evertonfc wrote:I don't know what to say.riccardo wrote:Its not spreading as fast as the great global warming scare tactic/scam.

Look, we should all save power, water and gas whenever we can, not just some stupid PC Earth Hour claptrap.
Using less power, water, gas saves MONEY.....and as an off shoot benefit the environment.
I've been turning lights off when going out, leaving rooms etc, not over heating the house etc etc for years, way before the environment became trendy, all to save money!
China's massive growth has caused way, way more pollution through power use than we can ever hope to save.....but it's helping our resources sector plus we all love buying cheap-cheap-cheap reasonable quality stuff from China don't we (those members only scarves & hats are OK aren't they? Make them in Australia and it wouldn't be a freebee would it??)
So we can't have our cake and eat it to.....how are we going to convince the pollies/rulers in China to care about the environment when we keep throw billions of dollars at them regardless?

I think with carbon offset they actually plant new trees....problem is, if it's not reguraly watered when it's a seedling, it will die if it's too dry!Saints-06-Premiers wrote:What I don't get is the whole carbon offsetting crap. From what I understand, you plant native trees and expect about half to die (unless you're planting in a very reliably wet area of course!).
So Carbon Offset should not just be about planting trees, but planting trees that have a 90%+ chance of survival!
Re the Saints supporting Earth Hour: I'm dead against this, as it in a way encourages people sitting at home to turn their telly off for an hour of our match, thereby reducing our ratings.
Anyway, that's in theory - any Saints fan with half a brain will ignore it, have the TV/lights/fridge/heating etc on as per usual!

Must have been Earth Hour at Waverley when the lights went out against Essendon years ago.
Just as a matter of interest, why should I bother to turn any power off?
Coming home from the game last Saturday night every building in the CBD had every light on and the MCG was lit up like a Christmas tree even though nobody was there.

If you don't care what we think, and you don't have to justify yourself to anyone, then why did you choose to share your ignorant views with the rest of us..........?riccardo wrote:Lucky for me I don't care what you think.Moccha wrote:I don't think you have a clue!riccardo wrote:Thats my opinion. We are having a BBQ at our place on Saturday night for our Vets cricket team and the lights will be out at 8 for an hour, we will light some torches outside and have candles inside. The Saints game will be over by then (WA time), I've told the Dockers fans to bring a transistor radio or stay at home if they can't miss out. I'm looking forward to it.
It' no big deal where I live as we have power outages quite frequently, the World Cup Rugby Final Australia v England a few years ago was blacked out for the last 20 minutes and we had to go out to the car to listen.

I just hope you, and plenty of other "dark houses" don't get robbed on Saturday night.saintdooley wrote:well said! we all have different opinionsriccardo wrote:Thats my opinion. If you don't like it, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid thats just too bad.

And the ignorance that got us here in the first place rears its ugly head. Mate, you have alot to learn about the world around you.riccardo wrote:Its not spreading as fast as the great global warming scare tactic/scam.evertonfc wrote:McMansionvillism is spreading from the plains to the mountains.riccardo wrote:I won't be at home at all this weekend, but, without wishing to get into the debate, I would not participate even if I was.

As for the "scam" perhaps you didn't realise they proved it years ago, oh and on the news last night, an ice shelf 8 times the size of manhattan has begun to crack. Imagine that many gallons of water going into the ocean, not in a million years, but THIS year.
Oh, and look up the Island of Tuvalu. It is sinking and will be underwater in a few years thanks to the "scam." Maybe you should think twice about where electricity comes from before acting the goat.
Wake up idiot.
