now saiints do it, opposition do it, and its umpired inconsistently.
i think the head should be sacrosant, however it makes it impossible when the ball carrier ducks their head or drops to the their knees.
This isn't just about st kilda, this is an instinctive thing.
i've seen the umpires call play on, and sometimes the umpires call over the shoulder.
its a damn hard one for the umpires. I see no favouritism here, just an issue for the AFL rules committee.
how do you deal with it? are the umpires getting it about right?
no one wants to see a broken jaw, but players limbo, its inevitable, especially guys like milne who gets 10 to 20 kicks a season from it, and another master of it is farmer.
In the flip side, the 'hard' ball carriers like ball, sam mitchell, Simon black, and the rat Kerr, have to cop hits to the head regularly and its called play on.

The umpiring is becoming more and more confusing. After Saturday nights game a Collingwood supporter was straight on the phone with the usual shyte that the umpires got us home we get an armchair ride. We then turned to there game and Dale Thomas's free kick for his tackle 15 metres out directly in front for holding the ball. Yes it was a great tackle I told him but in our game or any other game it would of been unrewarded. Why cant a simple rule be administered properly. Why am I as a supporter saying well YES its a free but the next 25 arent for the same thing. Does anyone feel its who lays the tackle that effects the decision or more so the team that its for.

tackling is probably the most complicated rule set going around.
issues such as in the back, head ducking etc make it open to interpretation by the umpire.
