Football Boots

Post: # 536683Post SaintBot »

its that time of the year again

iv been looking at new boots for a while now but i am still yet to decide

iv been an asics wearer for many seasons now but iv been far from impressed with my last two purchases, very poor on the heel - shocking blisters, im not the only one as other asic users in my side have had similar trouble

im not sure if im ready to move on from asics just yet but im certainly going to be looking at other brands a lot closer this year

i notice the nike airs are very popular among the afl players

there are also a few pumas (judd/kennelly/montagna)

so any tips on what boots i should look at?

Depends on your feet.
Like what may be good for others mightnt be for you.
I mean, one year i wore a pair of Nikes, and I wouldn't wear them again, they wrecked my feet around my toes and heel.
I wore Puma's and they were much better until my feet outgrew them.
I like asics, they seem to take a few wearings to get used to them, but I liked them the best.
Try them all on, see what fits best.

Always asics for me. I'd stay away from Nike's. My brother used to wear them and they'd last about 12 round before falling apart.

Just brought a pair of the new asics the other day, got the blue ones that Armitage wears, very comfy. The thing is these days there not cheap and you really pay for what you get.

I got mine from Athletes Foot where they get they computer on your feet and give you the best that fits your feet.

I've got ugly feet in extra-wide and a pair of Nomis I bought for soccer a couple of years back are wonderful.

Not as good in the wet thought but very comfortable.

I've noticed thought that there's incredible diversity within brands - some seem wide, some narrow. Going somewhere with a lot of diversity would be pretty important.

I think its always best to try on as many different styles as you can so that you have a good base for comparison. Certain models will suit certain foot types and if you are open minded about which boots you try on then you never know what you might find. I work in a sports store and Asics have probably had the greatest increase in sales so far compared to last season. The Tigreor model has been the most popular and there are a lot of AFL players wearing them. They are a good looking boot and are endorsed by Sports Medicine Australia. I reckon Xblades are worth a look as well. They probably dont have as big a profile of some of the other brands but they make some good quality boots and they are an Australian company. It would be worth checking out the Elite Pro and Xcalibur III if you can get your hands on them.

If you're serious about your footy and your choice of boots then take some time to do a bit homework and also try on as many as you can. Don't be too swayed by who is wearing what in the AFL either. It's probably not the most accurate indication of the best brand to go for, but more so an indication of who has the most money to throw around...

You are an onballer, hey Saintbot.

Go into an Adidas store or Rebel and try out some Adidas Predators. Just try them on.

What on earth has this got to do with the Saints?

Try Dunlop Volleys.

I've been an adidas man until this year. All my mates who have had asics have had issues with the blisters etc. Gone the nike tiempo, and TBH they're great - much more comfortable than my old boots

just perhaps

i thinks its much more football related than half the other threads that are posted

thanks for all the suggestions people, i didnt realise asics were still popular (i felt like the minority wearing them in the past 5-7 seasons)

i think im going to stick with asics again, as they have (apart from the blisters) been very reliable

anyone know a store which is probably cheapest to purchase asics from

iv been hinted that leo russell (?) in preston has very good discounts

again cheers for the help

A really old blister prevention hint that I got when I was playing was to cut the feet out of a pair of old panty-hose and wear them under your socks.

Not sure if it works as I gave the game away shortly afterwards.

Still keep cutting the feet out of panty-hose though.

Not sure why.

ive always worn asics gel, witht he blade sole not the studds.
i also prefer the styles that feel like sneakers.
bought a pair of asics gels three years ago and was so impressed i went and bought another pair after about 3 months of footy in the original pair.
they feel like i have slippers on....
they should see me out till im 40 and ready to retire :P
