6:15 v 15:6

Post: # 535240Post Dan Warna »

yes it was a terrible game, but look at the score, we missed shots, and its as simple as that.

a few years ago we kicked 18:2 and 15:5 in consecutive games (early 90s?) and folks were hailing our offence.

we created the same number of opportunities last night

that said, we played well below our best and IMO roos team, except in front of goal, did very well.

too few players put their hands up and carried us over the line.
I noticed banger took some mature and deft safe possessions in the final minutes while others were flustered.

dissapointed a few folks kicked it into packs when we needed cool heads.

aside from that 4 points is 4 points.

we could easily have lost and the recriminations would be have been harsher.

st kilda showed how good we can be, before we got reigned in.

agreed
we had 21 shots and if we converted 75% of them game is over
just be happy we won a tight scrappy game
it will give our boys the confidence if were ever in that situation again

The kicking has to improve, it really does...
Also on Harvey he really caught my attention in the last few minutes, a couple of those runs and kink ups could be fresh in the umps minds come votes time, might snag one, pushing him closer to that record

I remember that 18.2 game...against the Roos, I remember thinking (bear with me, i was pretty young), why couldn't teams do that every week....

We did everything to lose that game yesterday...almost didn't deserve to win......almost.

i wasn't at the game and have only just watched the replay but there seemed to be a "bermuda triangle" at one end of the ground where goals simply disappeared from the face of the earth.

according to the commentators only one goal was kicked to that end for the entire match.

was it the lockett end i wonder?

Agree guys about the kicking for goal. How many seasons has this been a problem for us? Time after time we make the running, particularly early, then blow it by not being able to impose scoreboard pressure.

The positive is that it is only round one and most, if not all, teams, struggle to kick goals against Sydney.

50 set shots at goal this week for schneider, milne, montagna, kosi and fiora, all of whom missed shots at goal they should have nailed.

there were probably a few others as well.

thanks sb. not surprising that more goals were kicked at the end named after lockett, the greatest goal-kicker of them all.

Goal kicking practice at training should be undertaken after a 5k run.

You never get an opportunity in a game where you're not buggered after having made 4 or 5 full sprint leads after jogging for 10 minutes.

Technique is important but so is kicking for goal when you're heart rate is high. Credit to Roo as he has improved in this area.

We had 21 shots on goal.

That's enough to win the game and shows that there was nothing wrong with the way we played in terms of creating scoring opportunities.

MUST improve. Should not be converting at anything less than 50% ever.

Kosi wasn't the only culprit, but to be a regular FF he needs to improve his conversion rate. All of his shots were deliberate and gettable. Should have had 4 or 5, not 2.3.

Mate - it was against the Bummers (Ess) at the G' in 1993?? 18.2 was our score. I was right on the fence at the cheer squad end.

Ross Lyon in post match interview on tv last night said they set a target for a goal in 30% of our inside 50s......
