Footy Show just had our Rnd 1 team up

Post: # 533862Post Quixote »

Am I missing something? Can't see any posts with it here or elsewhere...

Things of note : BJ in starting 18, along with Max and Fraser

Blake at CHB

Armitage, Allen, Geary on extended bench

X Clarke in a back pocket?

Ross Lyon mind games?

I can actually say that I have no idea who or how our team will line up, and its not a bad thing.

At least we won't be so utterly predictable with RL.
GT used to tell the opposition too much IMHO.

My :?: is more for the fact that the 'official' team release is on the Footy Show...?

BTW BJ was HFF, and from memory Fizz was a bench named player...

Saints V Sydney

From Footy Show

Saints

B X.Clarke Hudghton L.Fisher

HB S.Fisher Blake Gram

C Dal Santo Ball Montagna

HF Schneider Riewoldt Goddard

F Koschitzke Gehrig Milne

R King Harvey Hayes

INT Armitage Allen Rix Jones M.Gardiner Birss C. Gardiner Geary Gilbert

Interesting to note NO Fiora or Raph Clarke. I would suggest due to their pre season lack of form

Allen and Rix will definitely miss IMO, and M. Gardiner definitely play.

So it comes down to: C. Gardiner, Birss, Jones, Armitage, Gilbert and Geary.

What a tough ask narrowing that down any further ...
All of those players are deserving of a game!

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

If that is indeed the squad, my tip for the interchange would be Gardiner x 2, Gilbert and Jones.

i think we can fashion a fairly useful team from that list

B: X. Clarke Hudghton L. Fisher

HB: S. Fisher, Blake, Gram

C: Gilbert, Dal Santo, Montagna

HF: Schneider, Riewoldt, Goddard

F: Koschitzke, Gehrig, Milne

R: King, Ball, Hayes

Int: Armitage, Geary, M. Gardiner, Harvey.

certainly a few stiff to miss, including (to mention just a few) raphael, c. gardiner, fiora, jones and even allen.

but you can't play them all and, injuries being what they are, all will get the chance to shine at some stage during the gruelling marathon that is the afl season.

don't mind blake at chb. you need a solid, tough presence there. don't mind bj as a foil for riewoldt across half forward either.

those things are so hard to tell and so unreliable i hardly take any notice of them.

thats why i tick the players off as they run onto the ground at the game or watch the big screen and see whos in and out of the squad.

i just tune in to see who the panel has picked and what they think of us.

The team is just a guess. You would nearly have as much idea as them.

Correct. Just pulled it out of their arses and hoped for the best. Max in????? Give me a break. Rix ahead of Raph Clarke????? C'mon.

Why not just say this is what we think will happen at selection

No open training sessions at the Saints this week BTW.

Lance or James??

Agree.

C Gardiner, Armitage, Gilbet, M Gardiner.....Is my guess.

I seriously doubt that R Clarke will miss, unless he is injured.

I would have Gilbert, M.Gardiner, Armitage and Jones on the pine for us.

Gardi is a must, back up ruckman

Gilbert is just a handy player, can do lots of rolls, and if he doesn't have a specific job he is a good player on the wing or in the middle

Armitage is the up and commer, and while Geary showed a lot in the NAB cup, Armo was the one winning the hard ball. Time to get game time into him now, can only improve.

Jones: Probably bias on my behalf, but I think he offers something in forward pressure and tackles that no one else in our team provides. Is pacy which is something we lack, is always good for 2 or 3 holding the ball style tackles. Has had good pre season form.

i like him as a player too and i take your point about "forward pressure".

but to me the best type of "forward pressure" is the goals-on-the-board type, something we haven't seen much of yet from cj.

course if he's capable of kicking three or four i'd change my thinking pretty quickly

no doubt if he misses this week his chance will come at some stage during the season.

Good to see Fiora & Blake squeezed out due to better depth.....no disrespect intented to Fi or Blake, just making a point re depth!

If Fiora and Blake miss, so will L. Fisher. They are all feeling the pressure from the young guns, particularly Geary and Armitage.
