Saints get $500,000 from State Govt (for Moorabbin!!)
St Kilda will share in a $10.5 windfall to AFL clubs announced yesterday, but St Kilda's funds are "to open up Moorabbin to the community as the Saints prepare to leave their former home ground and move to Frankston".

That doesn't seem like much help at all!

let's hope we don't spend it all at onceThe extra money for North Melbourne came as part of a broader funding announcement — as revealed in The Age yesterday — that sees Victorian clubs share in an extra $10.5 million to build and upgrade suburban grounds and facilities.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

I don't follow your logic..bigcarl wrote:this might go some of the way to explaining why the clubs have rolled over on the issue of an 18 team competitonThe extra money for North Melbourne came as part of a broader funding announcement — as revealed in The Age yesterday — that sees Victorian clubs share in an extra $10.5 million to build and upgrade suburban grounds and facilities.
short-term financial gain
i hope they realise how much more difficult it is going to be long-term in an 18 or 20 team competiton
These are State Gov grants...not grants from the AFL.
Also a chunk of it is not really going to the teams but rather to enhance community use.

quite right.saintsRrising wrote: I don't follow your logic.. These are State Gov grants...not grants from the AFL. Also a chunk of it is not really going to the teams but rather to enhance community use.
but i'd still venture to guess the reason the clubs haven't represented their members on the clearly unpopular expansion to 18 teams has much to do with short-term financial security.
right reasoning but wrong example. thanks srr. i've edited my original post

bigCarl the thing is we don't know what info the club presidents were told or shown in that meeting so we really as members make a informed decision on it. I mean all clubs supported it including Brisbane and Sydney who stand to lose a lot more than the saints in this arrangement. I would think the clubs are looking long term with this and not short term as well.
Also most people I know who follow footy (not just the footy nuts like us) really don't give two hoots either way.

I never had any problem with the smell in the toilet blocks.
Some people are born blind - they use white canes so are easily identified.
Some people are born deaf - they use sign langauge so are easily identified.
I was born without a sense of smell but you can only identify me because I am the guy who doesn't know when he has B.O.

in the little poll i organised on here three quarters of people who responded are against 18 teams.ausfatcat wrote:Also most people I know who follow footy (not just the footy nuts like us) really don't give two hoots either way.
they might not feel strongly about it and to be perfectly truthful i can live with it, too. i don't like it, but i can live with it.
my main problem with it is that it means less of a chance of a st kilda premiership.
i think we're ultimately heading for a 20-team two division competition and a promotion/relegation system.
that's okay with me so long as carlton, essendon and collingwood wind up in division two and can't win promotion

i agree. that was the logical solution and would have guaranteed the financial survival of both clubs as well as helped expand the competition into new territories.ausfatcat wrote:personally I would've liked to see Kanga's and the bullies to move north, which I think would've been best for the comp as a whole the saints and those two clubs.
it would have also meant melbourne didn't have to support 10 out of 16 clubs, which it clearly can't
