Got there halfway through the first quarter and stayed till the end of the 2nd's game.
Tried to watch the whole game but ended up centering on a few handy players as you would expect.
BJ: Looked fantastic. BOG by a country mile. Looked strong in the tackle, good hands, great skills at ground level and his kicking was phenomenal as we expect from him. No strapping at all around the knee either, and ran very well over the ground. Expect him there for round 1.
Goose: Very good run out for the big fella. He is an absolute monster unit at the moment. Looked on fire at some points. Stong hands, strong body. Seemed to tire abit, especially at the ends of the quarters but he wasnt playing the whole match anyway. Round 2 or 3 inclusion by my reckoning.
Ball: Brilliant. The model professional. There was no difference in his play last night, the urgency and intensity in his game - it was as if he was playing for the Premiership. Good skills, looked strong in the tackle and was always at the bottom of the pack. Close to BOG - and would have been if not for BJ. Absolutely ready to go for round 1.
L Fisher: Very solid run for Fish. Did nothing spectacular but played most of the game around half back. Ran many kms.
Gwilt: Big boy. made some great tackles and his foot skills are very good. Would only expect him in the senior team due to injuries though.
McEvoy: Thought he went ok, the kid. Seems to have built his upper body up alot since draft day. Good vertical leap and has good agility. Came off with a few knocks but seems a good prospect.
These were the guys i tended to keep my eyes on. To be honest, didnt recognise Chivers at all. Dont know if Miles played. McQualter was alright from what I saw of him, but nothing special.
From the Reserves match, myself and Kippa (LennyBoy) kept our eyes on one bloke in particular, the #36 - Ilzy. The ressies got smashed in the first half, but whenever he was on the ground they seemed to fire a few shots. Plyed in a multitude of positions, Half forward, wing, on the ball, in the RUCK - and did very, very well in all of them. Good skills, great aerobic capacity, and boy does he have a leap in his legs. Was one of the stars for the seconds, and id expect him (on the back of that performance) to get at least a couple of games for the seniors.

re final lists I heard on radio this morning during a discussion about Benny boy that lists are to be finalised Monday- hence if there is any likelyhood of him playing In victoria it will be known by Monday evening.johnpeterbudgefanclub wrote:Love to know when the final lists will be available....I believe the final cut off was yesterday. We had our final hit out against Tassie in Tassie today.
Don't expect them to be vying for a finals spot this year.
Miles wasn't listed Nick and didn't play that I saw - but I thought I had read somewhere he may have had aniggle. - and chivers had on 61 not 67
and the reserves needed to pick it up a little from what I saw in the first qu

I thought Bally was best on ground. Gathered more than Bj did, although BJ's disposal was more damaging. Was surprised how good Bj was at ground level and in the packs.
Wouldn't mind Kyle Mathews running around. I find it unbelievable how we use picks on the likes of Phil Raymond, Re-drafting Ferguson, Mcqualter, etc when the likes of Mathews ( 2 time VFL team of the year representitive) doesn't get a look in. Mathews looked at home next to Bj and Ball and uses the ball so so well, as well as being very quick.
Im not saying Eddy, Chivers, etc are bad, they have time and look good, but Kyle was a lot better then a few of the saints boys out there.

"St Kilda duo Brendan Goddard and Matt Maguire both played 60 minutes for Casey on Friday night and ran out the game strongly. It is unsure whether either will play round one after limited pre-season campaigns."
Mmmmmm wonder if they had a reporter there - asked the club -just made it up?
- completely missed Bally playing and didn't really note that BJ played most of game and Matty missed 4th

Well it is clear that BJ was BOG for the Scorps with the rejuvenated Luke Ball not far behind (apart from 1 poster's views!!??) Goose looked well on the way back - combined with the rest of the positives from a most productive pre-season, and it seems we are in the best shape we've been in coming into Rd 1 of a new AFL season for quite some time.
All the experts - in particular current and past players, predicting a top 2-4 finish. Memberships tracking at record numbers, $400,000 in the bank from the NAB success - gee, I'm ready for the real stuff now.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Great news on Bally and BJ, great to hear BJ has slimmed down and will actually be able to move this year.
As for Bally, I think we sometimes forget how good he was before injuries took over. He is an absolute gun, inspirational.

found this report of BJ's game the previous week- 8th March
http://www.starnewsgroup.com.au/story/56180The Scorpions played their second practice match of the season immediately after the AFL fixture.
In a much-improved showing, the young Casey squad lost to Sandringham by four points, 12.9.81 to 11.11.77.
St Kilda ruckman Ben McEvoy snagged four goals for the Scorpions and Chris Dunne kicked two.
The game also marked the return of star Saint and former Gippsland Power player Brendon Goddard from a knee reconstruction.
Goddard is now on track to return to St Kilda’s senior side in round one.

North Melbourne is partially aligned with Werribee and partially aligned with North Ballarat (replaces the shared Tasmania/North Ballarat alignment of recent years).johnpeterbudgefanclub wrote:I heard the ruling permits Cousins could play only with a VFL side that didnt have an alignment, ala Port Melbourne, Tassie, Frankston.
Who has Werribee aligned with this year???
