Sean Dempster???
How far is Sean Dempster away from returning? Surprised he didn't have a run with CASEY Friday night.
I wonder what Ross has in mind for him? We have far to many back flank style players on the list. IMO they should try and bulk him up to become a Key Position Backmen. Looks to have more chance of putting on bulk than Gilbert.
IMO this year he will be a back up to Gilbert & C. Gardiner, but would like to see him deleveloped as a key backman.
Will make for interesting watching???
But isn't it great to finally have some depth - we have ALLEN, GWILT, BLAKE, RIX, FERGUSSON, DEMPSTER, EDDY and MILES all capable of coming in and filling specific backman roles within the side.

Are you suggesting the Swans are better than us in all 18 positions?
no im not saying that, im just saying that if someones one of the top back man in one of the leagues top teams then if hes fit he should start in our backline.

Yeah I think he had minor arthoscopic knee surgery and he should be returning soon, chances are his only real chance to impress would have been the first 5 rounds in Baker's absence however that role will not probably go to Geary and I just don't see Dempster getting much game time unless we get some injuries, I'd have him at about 25 or 26 on the list to be honest...

I'd like to think we've moved on a bit from that sort of thinking.saint edward wrote:no im not saying that, im just saying that if someones one of the top back man in one of the leagues top teams then if hes fit he should start in our backline.
You over-rate Dempster and Sydney and under-rate our defense and our team.

i do over rate dempster because i think hes a great player and i dont underrate our defense i just think a player like dempster could just make it inot our top 6 with relative ease because he is better than some of our players back there.
but when goose returns (will he be back by round 1?) he (dempster) will get a run for his money.

i agree. make dempster earn his stripes and he will do if he is good enough.JeffDunne wrote:I'd like to think we've moved on a bit from that sort of thinking.saint edward wrote:no im not saying that, im just saying that if someones one of the top back man in one of the leagues top teams then if hes fit he should start in our backline.

he's not a walk-up start just because he is from sydney.

if he's good enough he'll earn his stripes, don't worry about that.saint edward wrote:its not that hes from sydney its just that i rate him as a really good defender.
it's like in cricket. there's nothing as persuasive as runs on the board for a batsman.
if he shows good and consistent form for casey he'll get his chance.

maybe he is, but he'll have to prove it with good form for casey as charlie did in the seniors during the nab cup series.
there is really no keeping very good players out of the side. the cream rises to the top and most of the time the selectors get it right. that is because their job is on the line if they get it wrong
