Infact, off the top of my head Drew Banfield and Des Headland are the only No. 1 Draft Picks to play in a premiership.
I think draft picks are a bit overrated.
Will the Blues be penalised again?????

What about dropping the priority pick thing all together, and the draft list goes by where teams are on the ladder AFTER ROUND 10.
There are very few teams who's seasons are completely over by then, so you wouldn't have the issue of players going in for early ops, and coaches wouldn't have the chance to "manufacture results" like we do now.
The only possible down side to this is if the draw is manipulated. Collingwood could play the best 10 teams from the previous year in away games in the first 10 rounds, have a record like 3-7 or 4-6, and get a top 5 draft pick. Then, they play rubbish teams at the 'G in the second half of the year, make the finals, and make a mockery of my near perfect system.

The AFL board led by former Carlton player Mike Fitzpatrick "decided" to give Demetriou a pay rise to $1.4 million.
Demetriou had already not investigated or taken any action against Carlton despite everyone who knows anything about football saying Carlton tanked.
Now he has taken the pay rise how could Demetriou now investgiate Carlton?

The AFL seem like they want to flatly refuse to change the priority pick and draft system, unless something comes of their chat with Libba.
Of course nothing will come of the Libba chat....it will be swept under the carpet like the Eagles drugs fiasco and they'll do nothing.
The power-hungry, money-chasing, incompetent f-wit persuing his own agenda to the complete exclusion of the wishes of the supporters. has obviously seem way too many dollar signs recently to have any sort of clue as to what is happening with respect to tanking.

Innapropriate. What has Demtrious nationality got to do with his performance of his job.saintspremiers wrote: The Greasy Greek has obviously seem way too many dollar signs recently to have any sort of clue as to what is happening with respect to tanking.
Really pitiful to use that. If Demetriou was an aboriginal would you call him a dirty coon?
Fair Dinkum, this place is looking like the stormfront forum with its bigotry.
Lance or James??

I was using a reference that Derryn Hinch used - I apologise I should've written a reference to that!
I can't stand Diwmit and I think I'm being nice using those words.

You have been warned about that reference before saintspremiers.
No official warning this time, but please do not use it again.
Just because Darryn Hinch said it, doesn't make it right ... and probably makes it more incorrect ...
PM me if you want to discuss it further.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Let's drop the "Greasy" bit and just agree to describe him as he is
- a power-hungry, money-chasing, incompetent f-wit persuing his own agenda to the complete exclusion of the wishes of the supporters.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Well you better talk to the 16 presidents who agreed to expand so we can continue to get the best athletes over soccer, cricket and rugby. AD is that incompetent that the AFL is making more money than ever.Enrico_Misso wrote:Let's drop the "Greasy" bit and just agree to describe him as he is

I think you are saying that the proof is in the detail and 16 very successful people (presidents) see it as a good thing because they have seen the detail. If the detail is good enough for our pres (and the other 15) then I trust his judgement. It's now a done deal - Bring it on !!plugger66 wrote:Well you better talk to the 16 presidents who agreed to expand so we can continue to get the best athletes over soccer, cricket and rugby. Ok, you think whatever you like OWTS, Joffaboy etc, and I'll stick to my guns, but I have edited my post to keep you lot happy.
Anyway, back on topic, why is that the AFL are dead set against removing the priority pick altogether???
The fact still remains, that if CarlTANK and Richmond gain less than 20 points this year, they will again get a priority pick.
Put aside for a minute draft order - the priority pick is massive, way bigger than draft order/lottery ideas (which IMO needs a review no doubt!).
So what's in it for the AFL?
Priority Picks help even up the competition - that's true - and St.Kilda should have won a flag with the aid somewhat of the Priority Picks we got also.
So what else is holding the AFL back in removing the PP system altogether?
Can I throw in something from left field, my thoughts, not based on any rumour/knowledge or anything else?
Perhaps, just perhaps, some at AFL house like betting on teams that play against tankers (through associates/friends etc of course), and make a bit on the side as a result....
I know this is a real longshot, and very unlikely to be the case, but I can't think of any other reason for the AFL to be so heavily motivated to keep the PP system.
Can anyone else think of a reason, apart from pig-headedness, to keep the PP?
