How I wish we could re-record this as our War Cry
Sung to the tune of "The Saints are Coming" by U2 and Greenday:-
There is a ground in Melbourne Town, They call the Telstradome
It's seen the ruin of many a poor team, and now you know you’re one.
Verse 1:
I cry to my daddy on the telephone,
how long now?
Until the Flag unrolls and the cup comes home,
the line went.
But a passion still remains that wont relent,
wont relent.
Verse 2:
I cry to my daddy on the telephone,
how long now?
Until the Flag unrolls and the cup comes home,
the line went.
But a passion still remains that wont relent,
wont relent.
Chorus 1:
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming.
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply.
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming.
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply.
Verse 3:
A growing courage floods the deepest grief,
We know now!
And the crowds surge forwards in relief,
They know now!
When the Saints rise up in their belief,
It’s time now!
Chorus 2:
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming
I say no matter what they try, they realize that there's no reply
The Saints are coming, the Saints are coming
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply
I say no matter what they try, they realize there's no reply
Any thoughts, comments, improvements

seeing as though its a greenday and u2 song i would imagine the royalties would be through the roof as both bands tent to not like thier songs changed

The U2/Green Day song has been played prior to home games, with a montage of highlights edited to it. Generally gets no reaction from the crowd because its played 30 mins or earlier before the start of the game
If its gonna work to pump the crowd up...they have to play it closer to match time, draw attention to it...and turn up the volume til our ears bleed
Not sure if we need AAMI Stadium-style rev-ups though

Nicely done.
Even without the changes it's good for a rev-up before the game when the chorus booms out over TD.
Incidentally, the Green Day/U2 version is a cover, so the royalties would have nothing to do with them unless my knowledge of royalties and copyright is mistaken. It was originally by a Scottish punk band called 'The Skids' in 1978.

As with the band's following single, "Into the Valley," it is sung by fans of Dunfermline Athletic F.C. in the Scottish Premier League.
So we wouldn't be the first sporting team to use it.To coincide with the U2 and Green Day recording of the song, both bands performed it live during the Monday Night Football Pregame show of the New Orleans Saints versus Atlanta Falcons game on September 25, 2006.

That is an awesome effort, I personally dont like the song being used for our games but obviously its not my decision For the cost of the rights to play that song we might even be able to get a band to wright a song for us and have it played at our home games.....just a thaught
BANG BANG

I'll have a Go with another U2 song!
Sainters Bloody Sainters
I can't believe the result today
Can't close my eyes and make it go away
How long? how long must we sing this song?
How long? how long?
'Cause tonight we just won the NAB cup - tonight
Broken coaches under supporters feet
Years of turmoil and years of defeat
But I won't heed the last drinks call
It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall
Sainters, bloody Sainters
Sainters, bloody Sainters --
And the battle's just begun
The Premiership cup, tell me when have we won?
The scars are dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart
Sainters, bloody Sainetrs
Sainters, bloody Sainters
How long? how long must we sing this song?
How long? how long?
'Cause tonight we can be as one - tonight
Tonight
[Sainters, bloody Sainters)
Tonight, tonight
[Sainters, bloody Sainetrs]
Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
This year our team will wipe your tears away
Ross will wipe your tears away
[Sainters, bloody Sainters]
I'll wipe your bloodshot eyes
[Sainters, bloody Sainters]
Sainetrs, bloody Sainetrs
And it's true we are misled
When fact is fiction and TV is really Ed
And today our supporters cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they cry.
The real battle yet begun
[Sainters, bloody Sainters]
To claim the victory Geelong won
[Sainters, bloody Sainters]
Sainters, bloody Sainters
Sainters, bloody Sainters

The Green Day/U2 version was written and released to mark the Saints returning to the Superdome. The proceeds from sales of the record when to a charity for New Orleans musicians.st_nick wrote:Nicely done.

Using it and changing the words would seem a little crass to me.
I don’t like us using it at all.

not so much the royalties but the fact the words are changed would get up the artist nose . as for it being played at TD as the originals there would be a royalty fee just like when the radio stations play it but it would be minimal but obtaining the rights to the song would be near on impossible unless Bono is a closet sainter ?st_nick wrote:Nicely done.

Ok here we go
stop the guessing people!!!!!! if you want to record another persons copyright go here to the Harry Fox agency and pay for your distribution
http://www.harryfox.com/
Dont guess as its not all that hard or that expensive, the original author is the copyright holder it doesnt matter who or how many people release it, after that it remains the copyrigt of the original author until i think its 50yrs then it becomes public domain
A song like when the saints go marching in is probably public domain
meaning go for it but this other tune belongs to the original composer

When The Saints Go Marching In
is a funeral hymn lol
is a funeral hymn lol
So from all information i can gather "When the saints" is a public domain funeral marchA traditional use of the song is as a funeral march. In the funeral music tradition of New Orleans, Louisiana, often called the "jazz funeral," while accompanying the coffin to the cemetery, a band would play the tune as a dirge.
