thank you.ausfatcat wrote:thats exactly what I thought straight away and even posted thats as well. Until I realised that
"The Victorian Government is jointly funding the project with $2.55 million from the AFL, $1.25 million from St Kilda and $3 million from the City of Frankston."
means 2.55 from the AFl, 1.25 from the saints and 3mil from frankston, and 3.45 from the Vic Gov.
so thats 2.55+1.25+3+3.45 = 10.25
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Back to the captaincy...(although the funding discussion was valid in this topic as people speculated about the announcement that may have been happening).
Rooey will be named sole captain. He will be captain for years. The Saints need to do everything to secure him for post 2010 when the new team starts on the 'old Coast. Making him captain will make it harder for him to sever ties with the club when his contract renewal is up at...you guessed it...the end of 2010 season.
Also, when it comes down to it, Rooey has that rare public profile that is worth so much to the club (new memberships, sponsers). It would be enhanced if he were the captain. Riewoldt's got everything that Nathan Buckley didn't have, even after Eddie McBoner spent a fortune getting him special training on speaking, reading, writing, etiquette - it never made him anything more than a gorilla in a suit. It was always like there was a nightclub bouncer on the footy panel shows and the like that Eddie put him on. Rooey, to contrast, is good looking, intelligent and a good natured type as well a star footballer. He is sought by the media for his natural assets, not thrust upon everyone as that Soprano's flunky was.

we exist on a brane - thank f*** for StK
I'd rather have a player who is the most respected by his team mates and that would be Lenny but from what i hear Rooy will be named sole captain tomorrow.nicola69 wrote:Back to the captaincy...(although the funding discussion was valid in this topic as people speculated about the announcement that may have been happening).

Otiman wrote:How does this compare to the breakdown of the costs of the original moorabbin proposal? I believe that was around 10 million too.
It was more than 10 mil, due to taking down the stands and social club relocation kingston council was only going to chip in 2 mill and the saints contribution was 6 million. Oh and the purchase of land in there as well. so it was around the 13 million mark from memory.

Comparing apples with oranges here (which will always happen with smoke and mirrors in these type of matters).
The original proposal involved St Kilda FC paying $2.1 million to Kingston Council for the South Road land, and Kingston Council contributing $2.5 million to the development of the Moorabbin Reserve. No prizes for guessing where most of the Council money was coming from. It is recycled money - counted twice in the final estimate of costs.
The $6 million was completely new money and would have been borrowed on the strength of the mortgaged South Road property and projected revenue from the social club. No part of the $6 million is in the current Frankston proposal.
