This is the Year, Right?

Post: # 530683Post farquhar »

Right, this is the year we win the flag, right.

Good coach - right
Rucks - right
Kosi and Luke Ball are fit - right
Gehrig is back - right
Backline working and rebounding - right
Team looking fitter and stronger - right
Quality recruits with points to prove - right
Guys competing for spots - right
Good team management and fitness staff - right

Right, then this is it, we have loaded up and 2008 is the year. There will be losses and injuries and suspensions and occasional weak efforts but overall the prognosis could not be better, right.

Am I right or am I right?

I think you have most of it right, but I'm a bit doubtful about
Rucks - right
King is clearly a high class ruckman. However, there is only one of him and beyond that we have:

Gardi - anyone who is totally convinced about him on the lumbering performances we have seen to date is an optimist to the point of delusion

Rix - I'm not quite as down on him as some are on this forum. Nevertheless, the guy helps to define words like "ordinary" and "average".

McEvoy - ?????

Blake - GT, Ross Lyon and I are probably this bloke's only fans as a ruckman.

Kosi - is a fair to average ruckman, but hardly is a cause to suggest "Rucks - right"

So, to sum up, we have King: a big step in the right direction, but that's all we can reasonably say at this stage.

You make some good points but I have to agree with MB on the rucks.
I am very hopeful of Gardy this year but it is just hope at this stage.
He has at least held up for a couple of games in a row and building a fitness base.
Look out if we have both of them fit and firing. 8-)

Yes, both rucks are injury-prone, however, at least we have them this year. And it will make a huge difference to overall team structure and flexibility. Kosi will be freed up to play where he can damage the opposition the most depending on match-ups.

Agree - except for the last quarter on Saturday night.

Thought Gardiner lifted a notch then and started to have an influence to the level required.

It might have been a one-off and the best we'll ever see him play in a Saints jumper ...

But his last quarter was bloody good.

That's about all though ...

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Correct OWTS!!!

I would go as far as saying (which I did to my dad during the 3rd quarter)...that King was getting thrashed in the middle by the younger brigade, solely in terms of ruck work.

MG was fanatical during the last quarter. A presence I havn't seen in the middle since the domination of Peter Spida Everitt.

I really hope so, for Harvey's sake.

Need more goal kickers to make a serious challenge this year -that means more from midfield/ onballers, small forwards especially. We seem to be heading in the right direction with recruitment, so see how we go -but Kozi needs to stay in the forward line.

just on that you take away Cox from WC ruck division it falls away very fast same with freo the sandilands so every club if they lose the no1 ruck will struggle ,the fact we now have a number one ruck is a major positive
