Goose offically out for Round 1
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/ ... 42,00.html
Key defender Matt Maguire, returning from a foot stress fracture, is a strong chance to resume at Casey this weekend.
But Maguire will not be rushed and is not in contention for the first round.
I think we were all expecting that news.
The article also says:
Although two lead-in matches is a less than ideal preparation for the home-and-away opener against Sydney at Telstra Dome, St Kilda football manager Matthew Drain refused to rule out playing Goddard.
"He's a very good player. We'll weigh it up," Drain said.
"It depends on how he shapes up after this weekend."
You would imagine that they would be cautious with BJ though...particularly in light of the good form of most of our players.
Lets hope he is fully match practiced and ready for the Cats game...along with we hope Goose.

Can't wait until BJ is back ...
He's in our best dozen when fit, and I was watching a game from '06 the other day .... geez we missed him last year.
I think most of us (certainly I) have forgotten how good Goddard is when he's fit and in form.
Love watching the way he plays his footy too, and hopefully he can make it back early in the season - Round two if not the opener.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I really don't think we should rush either of them, obviously they know a lot more about the guys then I do but if I were in that situation I would let BJ play with Casey for the first 4 or 5 rounds to let him fully establish his fitness base...

Don't be surprised if the next time Maguire breaks down in his comeback attempt, he calls it quits for the rest of the season, and re-evaluates his career from then on.
Hate it to happen, but the injury was just about as severe as you can get and still play again.
Credit to the lad for his efforts so far, but one more setback will just about be it for him.

Careful GO, I was shot down by about 20 posters the last time I suggested it.GrumpyOne wrote:Don't be surprised if the next time Maguire breaks down in his comeback attempt, he calls it quits for the rest of the season, and re-evaluates his career from then on.

Couldn't agree more! BJ gives the side that added flare. I'll be rapt to see him back again!Oh When the Saints wrote:Can't wait until BJ is back ...

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

I hate to say it but I do agree with you....he seemed very sus last year, but then again he's not that old and has another 6 months up his sleeve, so fingers crossed.........GrumpyOne wrote:Don't be surprised if the next time Maguire breaks down in his comeback attempt, he calls it quits for the rest of the season, and re-evaluates his career from then on.

But people thought the same about Nathan Brown, came back, broke down, come back again, same result. But he did come back and play some damn good footy last year considering the past couple of years he had.
In Ross Get lost!
I am excited to stay at St Kilda and this is a great result for the Club and all our fans. I’m proud to be part of the Saints and am pleased to be playing football with the Clubâ€

We all hope he does come back DSG, but my sources tell me he is very close to pulling the plug. Just so much a guy can overcome; not only is it physically difficult, there is a mental side to it too.Dal_Santos_Gal wrote:Hey guys, look I understand where you are coming from and I hate to say that could well happen.saintspremiers wrote:I hate to say it but I do agree with you....he seemed very sus last year, but then again he's not that old and has another 6 months up his sleeve, so fingers crossed.........GrumpyOne wrote:Don't be surprised if the next time Maguire breaks down in his comeback attempt, he calls it quits for the rest of the season, and re-evaluates his career from then on.

If your going to make such a statement as goose is close to pulling the plug, you have to give us more than "my sources".....please...

hmmm, thinking more about this..goose seemed really upbeat when on stage talking at the family day...
Though when I was leaving he was walking up the road and some girls called out to him. He sort of waved, or fobbed em off, probably a combination, but he certainly didnt seem that happy. Just sayin, dosent mean anything.
Anyway, Id be staggered if he pulled the plug without giving it another shot at least.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

The end result is that only Goose knows what he will do if there is another setback in his path. The mail is that the club will take the direction that they took with Leigh Fisher, that is to offer him the rest of the year off and let him re-evaluate his desire to play on next year.
