IMO/IMHO
Ok this has been bugging me for a while now and I have kept tight-lipped. But when every 2nd post seems to have IMO/IMHO in it it starts to get annoying.
Why? Because who else's oppinion would you be talking in? Unless the Borg Queen from Star Trek or the Hypnotoad on Futurama has brainwashed you, can't we just assume that when you type something, you stand by it with conviction?
Perhaps it is pointless bickering, but it is starting to drive me up the wall. So unless you specifiy that the comment is your uncle's second cousin's nephew's, can we just assume that it is your oppinion?
This is the only forum and internet site where I have noticed this in epidemic proportions. Can you imagine what would happen if every radio or tv commentator said that everytime they called a play? Is this some strange, unique st kilda dialect or has the validity of oppinion become questionable on this particular forum?
/end rant

Toughen up? Hmmm not exactly sure how toughening up would help anything. I'm not exactly intimidated by it, more frustrated in seeing it in just about every single post.Devilhead wrote:IMO you should stop worrying about it!!
but IMHO you should toughen the f#ck up!!
I'd love to stop worrying about it, perhaps redundant discourse gets on my nerve. I just do find it interesting that this is the only forum I have ever been on to use it so prolifically.

Well that is a valid point, only that this is a forum, where EVERYTHING on here is OPPINION. That is the whole point of a forum, right? To share oppinion? Pretty much the only time it is not oppinion is when someone posts an article or a link to a video or something, quite clearly that is fact.JeffDunne wrote:If you use it people whinge.
If you don't people whinge that you're claiming things as fact.
That is of course . . . in my humble opinion.
My point is does IMO have to proceed everything? Doesn't "I think.." pretty much sum up that it is a personal oppinion...not exactly a foreign concept to forum.

i think it is that people genuinely don't want to get into slanging matches and saying IMO or IMHO makes it clear that it is just your opinion.
people can be pretty quick to jump down your throat
this is a good point Carl.
I generally use IMO when disagreeing strongly with another poster's views, but I don't want to seem to be a bloody know all. I put IMO to accentuate that I understand that other posters have differing views and opinions about all sorts of things.
IMHFHO that's why it gets used so much.
Yeah I appreciate that. Sad fact, but true that some forumites don't seem to take opinion for what it is. Perhaps this forum's culture as a whole is to blame? Which brings up what I said before about only noticing its excessiveness on this site....bigcarl wrote:huzzard, you have a point.
