Lack of congratulatory threads
Good on you Sainters, congrats and well done.
But I see a lack of threads actually congratulating the team on winning the NAB Cup.
Is it a positive that so many of us are arguing about Germy, GT etc., that means we as a fan base aren't overwhelmed by this win, we are really looking forward to the big one in September?
While it's great to read those threads and get stuck into them about their criticism of the Great Man, is it also a sign we have our sights firmly set on the real prize?

Very happy with the win tonight, a nice little cash injection into the saintly bank account.
Congratulations fellas !!! for all the hard work and for battling the heat and the adelaide crowd! Seems all the crows fans need a rule book to be handed to them all on entry into the ground, considering they boo everytime we get a free kick.
Almost appears that don't really know why they are booing half the time

Well I thought it was fantastic.
To win in that heat.
In hostile territory.
With hostile umpiring.
Against a superfit Adelaide team.
This should set us up for a great start to the season.
Last time we went on to win our first 10 games.
This time we have the cattle and maturity to go on with it.
And the confidence of this win (and the prev two close ones) should serve us well as we battle to September glory.

Yep, nice to win the extra cash, but at the end of the day it's only a practice match
Carltoon won the thing last year, really means SFA
We all want the taste of the real thing, only that and that alone will begin to satisfy our thirst and hunger
Now let's get back to bagging that absolute shytecase out of the money grubbing fat pig, shall we

Yep.saintsRrising wrote:Lid firmly on
Wrapt we won but I see it as a great sign that we aint all running round screaming "we are gonna smash Geelong and co when the REAL stuff starts"
Ive had a quiet beer and always like to win but as the coach said - long way to go and until I see Rob Harvey hold that cup upin Sept everything else is just a "small step" on that road.
“Yeah….nah””

Cos while I'm pumped about the victory I also see the other threads where we're bickering about the Germ/GT comments and I wonder whether we're also as a fan base holding back for the big prize, not wanting to celebrate ala Lenny and GT 2004.
My point is that we seem more intent to almost avoid the fact we've won a NAB cup and are intent on just going back over old ground.
My absolute congratulations go out to the team and well done.
I just thought there would be 20zillion threads saying congrats....

I am very happy...
But I am more happy that we will have a very good round 1 team....and that we are set up nicely for the H&A.
Gardi and King in the ruck.
Charlie as a HFF ad mini-roo..
Schneider asa goal kicking mid....
Grammy back in town.
Bally seems to be coming along nicely...as is Lenny.
Just a cloud over our key backs though with Max and Goose out...and Gilbert is not yet ready.
However Goose and BJ seem to not be too far away.

I think if we win the big one the first person on this forum to mention GT should be forced to buy every other member a beer!
The man himself makes controversial comments because he is both vindictive and pragmatic.... he knows that as a commentator he lacks any real currency and is on borrowed time, so needs to keep a profile. He'll become the Warwick Capper of ex-coaches yet.
...oh yeah, good work Saints!

Well done fellas
Any win is good, and I'll take a pre-season cup any day.
Good to see us win 3 tight games.
2 rucks who do more than contest hitouts, another smart small forward, some kids with promise and no further injuries - that will do me for this time of year.
Now let's put all that behind us and bring on the real stuff...

exactly, and it's great to see very few people are genuinely excited about it.saintsRrising wrote:One pre-season GF win does not a season make...
Cop that Dimwit and Monkeyboy - it means very little you clowns!
What I'm most happy about is our ability to run out the past 3 games, to the extent we were slightly better than the opposition and hence won all those games.
Rewind to the first half of last year and that never happend!

I know what you mean... we would typically expect many threads in a normal week if we had a good win...I think it is perfectly reasonable to celebrate this victory, even if everyone is trying to say 'its just a practice match'. I would celebrate winning a practice match - wouldn't you?
