The best way to meet Stewie is to catch the train home after a Saints game at the MCG - often there with his son on the Frankston, Sandringham line. Ripper bloke no question and agree - fantastic mark, heart as big as Phar Lap, club before money and could kick 7/10 for most of his career....and BTW, could have played for Hawthorn but they passed him up early in his career.

Absolutely no doubt that if he had spent his career in a stronger team, he would have been regarded in the elite of AFL, like a lot of Saints players who could have stepped into top teams over the 70s 80s and 90s.

Stats don't tell you the full story, and Carey was more talented than Loewe.

But Stewie comes reasonably close as far as the stats go ... took more marks but kicked fewer goals. Similar number of Brownlow votes (for what that's worth).

Carey was played forward all the time, whereas Stewie moved around a lot, playing in the ruck and up the ground more often.

Loewe was a pretty good ruckman too, and that's something Carey never did.

Loewe also kicked more goals (90 in '96) in a season than Carey ever did ...

Stewie Loewe - 1988 (debuted in '86) to 2002
Games: 291
Goals: 562
Goal per game = 1.93
Avg. Disp = 15.58
Avg. Marks = 7.95
Games of 15+ disposals, 10+ marks, 4+ goals = 24
Brownlow votes = 120

Wayne Carey - 1990 (debuted in '89) to 2004
Games: 268
Goals: 727
Goals per game: 2.71
Avg. Disp = 16.62
Avg. Marks = 6.77
Games of 15+ disposals, 10+ marks, 4+ goals = 32
Brownlow votes = 127

My point?

Stewie was very under-rated.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I have noticed a few constructions (apartments) between Frankston and Mordialoc with Loewe Constructions, and I often wondered if this was Stewie..

If so, they are unique in design, and hope he has at least has a bid for our new home at Frankston

yeh im pretty sure that is stewie because a mate of mines dad was helping him do some building and had a couple of drinks with him
