Additions to St Kilda's Team of the Century
Below is St Kilda's Team of the Century.
Which current players would be candidates by the end of their careers for an All-Star St Kilda team that included the 21st century???
St. Kilda Team of the Century
B: Kevin (Cowboy) Neale, Verdun Howell, Nathan Burke
HB: Daryl Griffiths, Neil Roberts,Trevor Barker
C: Colin Watson, Ian Stewart, Nicky Winmar
HF: Darrel Baldock (Captain), Dave McNamara, Bill Mohr
F: Ross G. Smith, Tony Lockett, Alan Morrow
Foll: Carl Ditterich, Robert Harvey, Harold Bray
Int: Stewart Loewe, Lance Oswald, Barry Lawrence, Jim A. Ross
Coach: Allan Jeans
Reiwodlt would be an obvious choice by the end of his career....And hopefully Dal Santo and Koschitzke can demand spots too.
Pretty hard to push players out though...
Thoughts?

It is too hard to me to say due to the fact that I have seen very little of St.Kilda pre 1990's but I would hope that Dal, Kosi and Riewoldt all strongly push for selection...

Roo does have the equal most B&F ever right now doesn't he? you would expect he will definitely get a gig, as for Dal being overrated, I can't think of a player in the league that uses the ball better than him...Otiman wrote:Maybe in 4 years after another few B&F's, Riewoldt would push for selection, but no to hayes, and definitely no to Dal Santo (extremely overrated player).

Quite right Mr Magic and Mr Shakey. Hard to push out either of those players. Spud was terrific, great heart, tough, wonderful leader. Both the others maybe a little ahead on class. More classical players.Bernard Shakey wrote:Spud not only has to overcome Verdun Howell at full back, but also the man who took his place, Bob Murray, who was also a more than useful full back.
Verdun was my hero, so you aren't pushing him out!
Geez we've had some great players. What's kept us going I suppose. Bottom half of our lists have been pretty poor sadly. Every era had a big star.

what about Bill Cubbins? Played fullback in the late 1910's and throughout the 1920's, won the B&F 3 or 4 times, earned state selection, and was renowned as a hard but fair captain. All this in a side that was mediocre to say the best for most of the years he played in.Bernard Shakey wrote:Spud not only has to overcome Verdun Howell at full back, but also the man who took his place, Bob Murray, who was also a more than useful full back.

Exactly Verdun66, that's why I think there should be Team of the 30's, 40's, 80's, etc. Stars don't miss out and it's impossible to compare 2 players many years apart.Verdun66 wrote:Quite right Mr Magic and Mr Shakey. Except his first wehen he won the Rising Star.mad saint guy wrote:Roo would be the only current chance. If Kosi stays uninjured and plays at his best for the next 6 years (with a couple of flags, B&Fs and Colemens) then he would have a shot, but he still hasn't put together one outstanding year of footy.
Coincidentaly it is the only season he has plated without injury.

Pffft, Kosi is nowhere near the team of the century.
What, is he a better player than Cowboy, McNamara, Mohr, Lockett, Ditterich or Loewe?
Not by a long shot. Not even in the same ballpark.

I reckon the following changes are possible:
Aussie Jones (226 games, twice All-Australian) for Daryl Griffiths
Lenny Hayes (170 games, B&F, Captain, twice All-Australian) for Jim Ross

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Cowboy Neale was a player who played with pretty much equal success at full back and full forward. However, he wasn't as accomplished a full-back as Howell or Lockett, so he slots in the third tall backman role.saint edward wrote:Oh When the Saints wrote:Pffft, Kosi is nowhere near the team of the century.

Morrow was a gun; absolute workhorse of a ruckman who could pinch-hit up forward, but he is obviously not as good as Ditterich, but deserves a spot in the starting XVIII.

just seemed weird because i alwayts just thought they were a foward and a ruckman respectivly.
youve probably guessed by now i never saw them play
