Crows stand firm- Today's Herald Sun
ADELAIDE Football Club officials have rejected an AFL offer of financial compensation to move Saturday night's NAB Cup grand final from AAMI Stadium to Telstra Dome.
The AFL last Monday asked the Crows to forfeit home-ground advantage, with the league fearing the match would be poorly attended.
Adelaide chief executive Steven Trigg said yesterday his club would not consider the league's proposal, which was not quantified in dollar terms.
"It is disappointing, and annoying, that there is a perception SA cannot get a crowd to big finals in Adelaide," Trigg said. "We now have to get 35,000-40,000 people to the game (against St Kilda) to send a message back to the AFL."
AFL chief broadcasting and commercial officer Gillon McLachlan flagged the league's concern to Trigg last week that the NAB Cup final would face too much competition in Adelaide.
There is the prospect of a third one-day cricket final between Australia and India at Adelaide Oval on Friday and the Festival and Fringe events.
McLachlan told the Crows a sell-out was guaranteed in the 50,000-seat Telstra Dome, but not at 51,515-seat AAMI Stadium.
The AFL -- not the clubs -- keeps gate receipts from the pre-season series.
Trigg said the Crows had not even asked how much they would be compensated.
"The AFL asked if we were open-minded about shifting the game to Melbourne, flagged financial compensation, and quickly learnt we're not interested," he said.
"After the AFL took the 2003 cup final from us, even though we had a better right to host it than Collingwood at the Dome, the rules were clear-cut. The team scoring the most goals hosts the final.
"That is us this year. Even though we have no commercial benefit from the final, we need to get as many people to the ground to stop the AFL thinking there is a problem getting South Australians to finals in Adelaide."
AAMI Stadium last hosted a pre-season cup final in 2006 when Adelaide lost to Geelong in front of 30,707 fans

Has there been any official announcement about the game yet???
There is nothing anywhere.
There is nothing anywhere.

Wow, we won 4 parctise matches in a row, that means SFA, there are also quite a few trophies handed out every year, we are up for 2, one against Hawthorn and one against the Dogs?mcadam05 wrote:Solar wrote:whats with charging people over $30 for a practice match? I'm thankful its over there

remind me how much of that $30 goes to the club? I have paid my membership and social club membership. I just find it suprising that they want to charge so much for a glorified practice match. No wonder they struggle to get more then 10k to the semi in SA.

What an extraordinary suggestion by the AFL!! You develop a set of rules under which the Crows win the right to host the Grand Final, and then try to talk them out of it!!!
Of course the Crows should stick to their guns. How would we feel if the AFL were trying to do this to us!!!
It's just another instance of the amateurish, cringe-inducing behaviour of the AFL administration on virtually a daily basis.
If they'd wanted to avoid the final being played in Adelaide during the height of the Adelaide Festival - which is a reasonable concern - then they should have scheduled it for the Telstra Dome in the first place.
Sigh...............!!

Not sure Crows V WCE would attract to many to Telstra. I think they want to change it because of the poor crowd last week. I dont see the problem in asking and the Crows quite rightly said no. Whats the big deal.meher baba wrote:What an extraordinary suggestion by the AFL!! so you dont go too away games or finals as none the money goes too the club??Solar wrote:mcadam05 wrote:yes I actually doArmoooo wrote:Wow, we won 4 parctise matches in a row, that means SFA, there are also quite a few trophies handed out every year, we are up for 2, one against Hawthorn and one against the Dogs?mcadam05 wrote:Solar wrote:whats with charging people over $30 for a practice match? my point was you quote Dal talking about his love for the club and u wouldnt even spend 30bucks on a game that stkilda may win something last time i looked we havent won much over 100yrs
it's a glorified practice match, ask anyone, would much rather spend my money on supporting the boys interstate when 4 points on the line.mcadam05 wrote:so you dont go too away games or finals as none the money goes too the club??Solar wrote:mcadam05 wrote:yes I actually doArmoooo wrote:Wow, we won 4 parctise matches in a row, that means SFA, there are also quite a few trophies handed out every year, we are up for 2, one against Hawthorn and one against the Dogs?mcadam05 wrote:Solar wrote:whats with charging people over $30 for a practice match? My point if you care to listen is that the AFL charging $30 for a practice match is a rort. Compare that to a practice match in the regional cup and members get in for free.
I spend close to $300 in a single membership, let alone other money I spend at the club on scarfs, beer etc. Seriously stop questioning a member and actually see the point I am trying to make.

yes, but who remembers who won the pre-season cup a year later? I can't remember who won it last year or before that and care factor = 0.mcadam05 wrote:Solar wrote:whats with charging people over $30 for a practice match? I'm thankful its over there

Couldn't care less about it. Am more concerned with an injury free and solid preparation for Round 1.
