We want Cup: Gram
By Jennifer Witham
1:26 PM Sat 01 March, 2008

COACH Ross Lyon might have his eyes fixed on round one, but St Kilda defender Jason Gram has no doubt about his own approach to next week’s NAB Cup grand final – he wants to win it.

Gram, 23, has played in only one regular-season final match, and he believes the host of young Saints will benefit from a taste of silverware ahead of the 2008 season.

"I definitely want to win it. I'd love to have a medal around my neck, whether it be a NAB Cup or premiership season one," Gram told saints.com.au after the side's three-point semi-final win over Essendon on Friday night.

Can someone just clarify how the final venue will be decided?

I heard somewhere, maybe during a game commentary, that the team with the most supergoals would host the final but I cant seem to find any rules about the NAB cup on the AFL site.

The nab cup final is decided on who scores the most points during the three weeks leading up to it

St Kilda
Week 1: 111
Week 2: 94
Week 3: 91
Total: 296 points

Adelaide
Week 1: 104
Week 2: 136
Week 3: ......
Total: 240 points

56 points scored tonight will make us even, they score 57 or more and win we will be going to Adelaide next weekend.

It is not amount of goals anymore, this was on Real Footy during the week.
If Adelaide can beat Hawthorn in a semi-final on Saturday night, again at home, it will most likely top the scoring for the pre-season series, which determines which state hosts the final. Adelaide has kicked 240 points in its two matches. Essendon is next highest on 213, followed by St Kilda on 202 and Hawthorn on 155.

So GO THE HAWKS tonight!

Why don't they just work out the side with the best percentage???

Or would that be too easy for this very complex competition?

Nick DS want's it too

Saints set for final push
Jackie Epstein | March 02, 2008 12:00am

ST Kilda has defied its NAB Cup expectations, but midfielder Nick Dal Santo said now the club had reached the grand final it would go all out to win. After defeating Essendon in a three-point thriller on Friday night, Dal Santo welcomed the prospect of silverware for the first time since the pre-season of 2004.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
It's great. We didn't make the finals last year so we can't be too fussy," he said after the match.

"To get a few wins under our belt early on -- one in Canberra last week and a nice tight game -- it's good to get the ball rolling and for the young guys to get experience.

"We'd definitely love to win it.

"I think the NAB Cup gets a bit of a tough go in the media, just saying it's practice matches.

"Once you're out there you play to win and that's just the nature of the game. That's the way AFL matches are played.

well that club sort of treats it that way with its rotation policy and not risking key players. understandably imo

however, as nick says, once you put your 18 men out there they obviously want to win it

Silly idea, because it makes sense.

Remember, this is a silly competition with even sillier rules, so why rock the boat and introduce something sensible???

St. Kilda's Nick Dal Santo Interview after close win over Essendon in NAB Cup Semi Final. Find out why Luke Ball spent most of the game in a track suit? Who are the St.Kilda young guns to look out for? And what was former team mate and now Triple M caller Aaron Hamill really saying about Nick's game.

Pretty quick run-down of the interview if you cant listen to it. Pretty light hearted interview, joked around a lot, didn't say a lot new.

They say the nab cup isn't always intense, both sides throwing them in, good to see?

nick- yeah nab cup gets a hard rap about praccy matches. when your out there you havn't got much else to do other than try and win it.
didn't make the finals last year so may as well get as many wins as we can and get some momentum.

aaron hamill is in the commentary box
asks nick about playing more as a half forward type in that game
nick jokes saying he is an aaron hamill type of forward, playing a lot more forward giving others time in the midfield.

aaron hamill- your in good touch, running around doing what you like, how are the young guys going?
nick- young guys are a terrific group, willing to learn lots of players to get advice from.

talking about rix, finding his feet as a key defender
nick- rix has good endurance, stood up as a key defender whilst the others are out

did you suggest during the game that luke ball could take the tracksuit off and give you a hand on the ground?
nick- jokes about leigh montagna asking bally if he would ever get on the ground, had to wait till the second half. got through
it alright on limited gametime. hopefully get a couple more back next week.

hamill- asks if nick will spend more time up front
nick- doesn't know what role he will take this year, ross lyon just wanted to play around. jokes about riewoldt telling him to get out of his space.
he will take as many goals as he can get.
