Best today

Post: # 522769Post joffaboy »

Here are mine.

Kosi - terrific up forward than god he is not badly injured.

Armitage - best game played by him in the seniors

Geary - hard at it consistant all game. Went in hard.

Blake - another good game. Played a number of roles and played them all very well. Courageous

Gilbert - after the initial rust was very good.

Sam Fisher - as usual.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Can't argue much with that.

Geary wont miss a game this year in a midfield half back role.

Armo impressive and finished strong after going quiet in the third.

Dal was certainly in the best as was joey and not sure about Gilbo. Not in the best 10 IMO.

I thought Dal was nice and clean in his better moments which helped in a (relatively) intense kind of match. His supergoal was a cracker - reminded me of his late goal in Harvey's 350th last year. It took a bit more hanging on to win this time, though.

He was pretty quiet in the first three quarters. His fourth quarter was match winning material though.

Dal Santo was BOG for mine, and I normally don't rate him.

Top 5 was (in no particular order) Dal Santo, Koschitzke, Geary, Armitage, Gardiner.

Montagna very unlucky to make that list, perhaps i'm ranking the newcomers more because i've come to expect that level of play from guys like Montagna.

I finally saw enough of Armitage today to feel confident that this kid can play and will play a lot of senior footbal for us.
He showed a lot of poise in heavy traffic often and his physicality reminded me of a young, left-footed version of Lenny.

I suspect that Geary is going to be the 2008 Attard - the kid that comes in and plays most games, with a minimum of fuss.

I thought that CJ was much better last week - his decisoin making and disposal seemed off (notwithstanding the high efficiency rate given in the Hun stats)

LVR has a lot of development to do yet.

Rix as a ruckman was terrible -not agianst Blake who played 20 odd games for the premier team last year, but against 2 rookie ruckman.

Charlie Gardiner if he continues in this forma is going to make it extremely difficult for the selectors to leave him out.

Allen showed enough glimpses to make you think he is going to be a good player in the next few years.

Steven shows he knows how to play footy and didn't seem overawed by the occasion.

Eljay has something about him. Although he didn't get much game time, and therefore few disposals, he did a couple of things which made me sit up and think - this kid has a 'cleverness' about him - much like Dal when he first arrived. If Eljay can get to be even 75% of Dal then we have snaffled a real bonus.

Eddy gets to the ball but I thought his disposal was suspect today.

Howard - I din't see anything today to make me feel he will make it.

The Herald Sun efficiency rates are a joke.

Rix 11 disposals, 5 clangers. Does anyone want to guess what his efficiency rate was?

82%

As a comparison, our lowest "efficiency rating" was Gram at 57%

That has to be a mistake. If Rix had 5 clangers, the best his efficiency could possibly be is just over 50%. Where do you get those stats from?

Thanks. Are we sure that the 'C' column is clangers? They've got players on both sides of the field with 100% efficiency and numbers in the 'C' column.

Well he got 5 of each...so either way unless it is typo he had 5 clangers.

Here is the table key from the Herald Sun website.

* D = Disposals
* K = Kicks
* HB = Hand Balls
* EFF% = Effective %
* M = Marks
* CP = Contestation Possession
* UP = Uncontested Possession
* I50 = Inside 50
* CL = Clearances
* FF = Frees For
* FA = Frees Against
* T = Tackles
* G = Goals
* B = Besides
* SC = SuperCoach Ranking

C is not mentioned & B stands for besides. :shock: :? Think they've had 1 or 2 clangers of their own. :roll:

The Herald Sun have it wrong at them moment. Their 'C' actually stands for the number clearances.

Here are Rix's stats:

3 Kicks and 8 Handpasses - efficiency rate of 82%
2 Clangers - 1 kick and 1 handpass
7 contested possessions, 4 uncontested possessions
1 Inside 50
1 Rebound 50
5 Clearances - equal 3rd highest for the match behind Selwood (7) and Joey (6) and with Corey (5).
8 Hitouts - 3rd behind Geelong's Blake and West (both 11).
3 Hitouts to advantage - highest for the match, West (2) 2nd and Geelong's Blake (1) 3rd.
5 first possessions from bounce - 4th highest for the match behind Selwood (7), Joey and Ling (both 6).

He certainly has some pace - was chasing Shannon Byrnes from behind at one stage and I couldn't believe my eyes the way he closed on him.

Players I noticed who stood out for mention, in no order:

Armitage - Got to like the kid. Anyone note how aggressive he is?? He nearly took Selwood's head off at one stage, and out-played him at most others. Fast enough, skillful. Bring him on.

Kosi - That's all.

Howard - Under-rated by most on here. Quick, good hands now too. Tackles well.

Geary - Touch ahead of Howard. Same attributes, has a massive crack at it. In 22.

Milne - Solid game, along with -

C Gardiner, looking a super find.

Jones - happy with his game. He's in the 22 right now.

Sam Fish, Joey, Dal, Max ( :( :( ), usual suspects, high performers.

Not showing much thus far - Birss (injured today?), Fiora (though did some good work in close), L Fish.

Rix and VR were smashed.

Jack Steven is a FIND. Whenever he goes near it he does something smart.

J Blake was nearly BOG, certainly top 3.

Eddy is good, but a ways behind Armo and Geary.

Gilbo very quiet first one back - worked in late.

Gram you cannot question - reckon he was kicking it 70 in his first hitout for the year.

Overall -

We beat the Cats!!!

And i had $50 on us.

8-)

Rix is one more bad game away from me deciding that he is never going to be good enough at this level.

Was smashed everywhere today. He's just a poor foootballer.

Dal Santo's work in the packs in the first 3 quarters was very very good, and not something that was as noticeable as when he played a bit more outside late in the game.

Connors .... I agree Mr Magic. Something about him and I reckon we might have a player in a couple of years ...

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I may have been excited when I wrote that, upon further inspection Joel must be commended...

However...

Teflon -- Check your view from the Dandenongs, and check the team that won.

Joel played really well - David played a bruising game.

Many elements combine to create a winning team.

The rivalry between these two teams is Alive.

I thought Armo had more influence on the end result today.

Come on Rnd 4.

Joel Selwood also played many more senior games including a GF last season, so give their experience I think Armo deserves some credit for his game. He does play with a fair amount of aggression Quixote, was a common feature of his games with the Scorps last season. Very Lenny like in that respect.

yesterday was the first time armo has really impressed me. i have felt that he has lived off the hype of being an exciting prospect until now, and yesterday he showed us glimpses of what we want to see for the next 10 years.

after yesterdays performance, and the sudden depth in our squad i will be very very disappointed if birss gets many games this season.

i am also excited about geary, very excited.. he will be a star.

with this newfound depth, and a star studded top half of the list, we are in for a big year.

Robert Harvey- Simply the best
