Footy Experience hits Canberra
Michael Tormey 5:09 PM Fri 22 February, 2008

AFL luminaries Kevin Sheedy and Chris Grant will travel to Canberra this weekend as part of the Australian Football Experience celebrating 150 Years of our indigenous game.

Sheedy and Grant will appear at the Australian Football Experience festivities at Manuka Oval, which will coincide with Saturday afternoon's huge NAB Cup second round clash between St Kilda and Geelong.

Sheedy said he couldn't wait to visit the town and help to spread the Australian Football 150 Year celebrations to the nation's capital.

"Australian Football has always been a chance for families to come together, get active and have some fun and that's exactly what will happen when the Australian Football Experience comes to town," Sheedy said.

"So get down to Canberra this Saturday, February 23, and join in the fun!"

Travelling as part of the NAB 150 Tour, the Australian Football Experience provides an opportunity for families and children to learn about the history of Australian Football while enjoying a series of interactive activities.

Families have the opportunity to visit the Big Footy, a nine-metre purpose-built dome holding up to 80 people. The interactive facility contains a visual history of 150 years of Australian Football, as well as a series of DVD highlights chronicling our great game. There will also be the chance to view replicas of the 2008 NAB Cup and the 2008 Toyota AFL Premiership Cup.

The Australian Football Experience will also provide interactive activities for children, including:

* Autographs and photos with Chris Grant and Kevin Sheedy
* Taking part in the Big Kick, a goalkicking competition for children where daily winners will receive an Australian Football Experience gift pack. All children participating will have the chance to win tickets to the 2008 AFL Grand Final for a family of four.
* Handball Highlights, an opportunity to demonstrate your skills with an Australian football.
* The opportunity to register your interest in NAB AFL Auskick or PlayAFL.

Festivities kick off at 1.45pm and acclaimed Australian musical act Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows will perform at 2.30pm before the 3.40pm match.

The NAB 150 Tour, which also celebrates the 150th birthday of the NAB, will visit approximately 90 towns, covering every state and territory during the year.

Steve Jacobs was presenting the Today Show weather from Manuka Oval yesterday in the lead-up to the game.

There were a lot of junior footballers present and Jason McCartney was cooking the barbie (amongst other things).

Apparently there will be similar events taking place throughtout the country this coming season to celebrate the anniversary.
