Injured.......
But sinking rapidly to the back of the queue....
On top of last years seniors.... for a spot on a HF or HB flank he now also has to displace Schneider, Geary, Dempster and C Gardiner..........
.........and that lightning quick rookie Luke Miles will be pushing for his spot in 2009...not to mention Eddy.

I was incredibly surprised when we re-drafted him. Highly doubt he will make a senior appearance this year, and if he does it will be on the back of some serious injuries.

Not sure Scneider and Gardiner have much to do with Ferguson playing down back but yes the injury doesnt help him.

Ferg's fans on the site push for him to play as a forward.
When he was recuited he was a forward.....though has mainly played in the back half with us.
He is not a midfielder.
He is not a ruckman
He is not a KPP
This leaves the spots he can break into the team as FP, HFF, HBF, BP
Schneider and C Gardi both play FP and HFF roles......direct competiton and also indirect as it means that players such as BJ or Gilbert who can play both ends may not. Not to mention say the young Geary who is being played in the backline at present. Without Schneider and C Gardiner Geary may well have been being trialled now as a HFF.

I think our drafting last year was all in all sensational....so I am not going to quibble about Ferg being retained...or in Mini being rookied...bob__71 wrote:Maybe we redrafted him because he was better than any of the players left in the draft....after all its the quality of the bottom end of the list which ultimately determines the strength of the list as a whole
He has this year to bloom...or not.
If he can displace anyone it will because he is playing good footy.

He is a backman. If he doesnt make it there he will not make it.saintsRrising wrote:You missed reading "for a spot on a HF or HB flank ".......plugger66 wrote:saintsRrising wrote:Injured.......

St Fid as you do not get my comment on Ferg being re-drafted...he was delisted in 2006..and then redrafted.
2006 Draft
5 72 Hawthorn PASS
5 73 Richmond Andrew Collins Richmond
5 74 St Kilda Matthew Ferguson St Kilda
5 75 Collingwood PASS
5 76
I know that you rate him..but fact is that he was delsited and then re-drafted.

Aaron Edwards, David Rodan, Adam Cockshell, Anthony Corrie, Leigh Adams, Jamie McNamara, Michael Jamison, Jake King, Jarrod Harbrow, Andrew Foster, Matt Campbell, Chad Jones, Tom Lonergan and Tom Collier were all available at Ferguson's pick, and they seem to be doing alright.bob__71 wrote:Maybe we redrafted him because he was better than any of the players left in the draft....after all its the quality of the bottom end of the list which ultimately determines the strength of the list as a whole

How many of the above list would be in our best 22? They all at best are valuable back up the same as Ferg is.mad saint guy wrote:Aaron Edwards, David Rodan, Adam Cockshell, Anthony Corrie, Leigh Adams, Jamie McNamara, Michael Jamison, Jake King, Jarrod Harbrow, Andrew Foster, Matt Campbell, Chad Jones, Tom Lonergan and Tom Collier were all available at Ferguson's pick, and they seem to be doing alright.bob__71 wrote:Maybe we redrafted him because he was better than any of the players left in the draft....after all its the quality of the bottom end of the list which ultimately determines the strength of the list as a whole
NO IFS OR BUTS HARVS IS KING OF THE AFL
None of them bar Rodan and perhaps Edwards really stood out in 07mad saint guy wrote:Aaron Edwards, David Rodan, Adam Cockshell, Anthony Corrie, Leigh Adams, Jamie McNamara, Michael Jamison, Jake King, Jarrod Harbrow, Andrew Foster, Matt Campbell, Chad Jones, Tom Lonergan and Tom Collier were all available at Ferguson's pick, and they seem to be doing alright.bob__71 wrote:Maybe we redrafted him because he was better than any of the players left in the draft....after all its the quality of the bottom end of the list which ultimately determines the strength of the list as a whole

Not as if Aaron Edwards was a smokey though. Dominated the goal kicking for Frankston and he was just the sort of mid-sized forward we needed, knowing that Hamill was not going to be around forever.
I remember at the time thinking Edwards would give us more than Ferguson.
