It appears that there will be a meeting later this week to wind up the Mitcham Footy Club. I think they are/were one of the foundation clubs in the Eastern District Footy League.
It is a real shame when any footy club folds and this is no exception !!

They were the last team to beat Vermont before that Record breaking run of wins between 1988-92 !!

Isn't there a meeting next week for a possible merger between Mitcham and Donvale?

It is, but a lot of this is due to their own chase for a flag. Some of these clubs are paying too much for talent they can't afford and are now in debt and are likely to close. This also goes for country clubs, stop paying for mercenary footballers who come up to play a game then goes home to the city straight afterwards.

That is a shame.
I always loved playing there when I was a kid cause they had a grandstand and a big scoreboard.

According to Mitcham's website, there is an extra ordinary meeting next Wednesday to vote on the proposed merger with Donvale. I believe Donvale are also holding a similar meeting.
Should Donvale vote against, Mitcham will die.
Their cricket team is fighting relegation also.

Donvale defanatly wont merge, they beleive theyve got a good crop of young kids coming up in the next couple of years. Sure they will suffer the pain this year in Div 1 but will survive overall.

Yes, my mail is also that Donvale will vote against. Even taking into account Mitcham's notice that Donvale approached them.
Sad to see Mitcham go.

That's a bloody shame. I'm surprised that a club like Mitcham can't stay afloat. Were they still in Div. 1 in the EDFL?
I used to umpire EDFL in the 80's and they were strong then with lots of junior teams. What happened? Did all the kids grow up and move out? Did they over-extend their budget?

Mitcham have had two relegations in the last two years, now in Div 3 in 2008.
Having trouble attracting players.
I think the Andy Collins years and some in-fighting have hit them hard.

Underperforming suburban football clubs unable to balance their finances and ambition go under?
No stinger, this is what happens when mums take their kids to play football!

Mitcham gone. Donvale voted last night against a merger. Mitcham have no playing numbers. Sad for a previous super power of the EFL.
Their cricket team is struggling too.

I would expect that they will now just field a Div 3 team.
I think the board have jumped the gun a bit & forgot that know one turns up in December to play Div 3 footy.

They were Div 3 in 2007 after being relegated from Div 2 in 2006. I think it's the sad but all too common story;
NO PLAYERS + NO MONEY = NO FUTURE !!
Footnote: Heathmont are a Div 4 side and they had in excess of 80 (seniors, reserves & u18's) for an intra-club scratch match last night !!
