Frankston Grandstand up in flames...

Post: # 517637Post Seaford_Saint »

Just heard on the radio that the Dolphins Grandstand was razed overnight.

I guess that will make the demolition job a whole lot easier - perhaps we can have the new thing built ahead of plan and under budget!!

probably be a big bin at the gate asking for donations- the Dolphins now need opposition change rooms etc as that was the area affected.

The implications of this fire for the relocation project are incredibly massive, and almost all work in favour of the Saints. It is almost too good to believe for St Kilda, and there would be rejoicing at Linton Street this morning. Almost every impediment to the development can now be removed by some strategic rearrangment. The relationship with the Dolphins could be cemented. More money will be available, and can be directed into improved facilities (and not just insurance money).

The sale of the land for the office won't be necessary, and removes a major headache.

The only issue to be resolved is parking, but strangely enough, that issue is assisted by the fire as well.

It will all just take some strategic thinking by the Saints' consultants and the Council.

From my perspective of getting the Saints to Casey Fields, the fire is a disaster. Gnash my teeth!!

I thought I read on here somewhere that the Grandstand at Frankston was home to a number of squatters. As CS stated, the fire has many implications. We will have to wait some time to find if they are positive or negative for Saints.

The immediate problem is for Dolphins as they have no gym/equipment and no visitors change rooms. Lets hope that Government/Council can assist financially and with accelerated planning processes !!

i have just been down to frankston oval to observe the damage. terrible, not a thing left. so many games i have atched from that grandsand now cherished memories from a childhood which religiously folloed the dolphins.

shattering.

i intended to take photos but my digital camera batteries died so no pictures as yet. i might go back down and take some later.

I agree. Though it works out pretty well for us, its likley to devestate the Dolphins, who are a stand alone club who I doubt could afford to replace the grandstand at all, especially so close to the new season.

Who actually owns the grandstand? is it the club or the local council?

bad luck Casey Scorp, but well done on all your campaign efforts.

.....and thanks to the fire bug that did it, it's been a very quiet bushfire season in Victoria - this is a about the biggest fire this Summer so far!!!

Hope they had insurance.

If so could be a smart insurance job, leave some fuel and matches lying around and let some deros do the job for you. j/k

The Council not only own/ed the Grandstand, they spent $500K bebuilding it only a couple of years ago.

You just watch as the "Red Tape" flies out of the way on this !!

I have knowledge of insurance and, as you may know, deliberatly causing or contributing to a fire results in a dishonoured claim and possible legal action.

If you start it, you aint covered for it.

that's quite obvious, but it's a matter of proving negligence re leaving matches around the place that would be tricky...
