I think you are missing the point....Waldron used to do a lot of the Football Operations stuff when he was there. He was very active and proactive in our list management, trading and recruiting.

When he left GT wrongly took it on...rather than get another appointment. taking it on by the way includes where he was accountable but delagted parts...ie to JB. If you are accountable you must oversee things properly.

Now cash was tight...but rather thatn $500 k to GT in could have been say $300K for the coach , $150k fora Footy Operations guy...and $50K fo an offsider.



So from that point RB stuffed up...as GT should have been told then that he should stick to coaching.

GT's "assumed" responsibilities had the club going backwards...just took a while for the rot to become obvious. When a termites first move into a sound structure all looks good for a while.....but bit after bite the structure becomes weaker.

Waldron had the nouse to manage the list properly. GT did not.

And as for overseeing our Player Conditioning and Fitness management..........

So then, perhaps this is where Jim Watts dropped the ball?? He should have intervened and said - no. This will not work - he didn't. Probably because of a strong friendship with GT. I believe Archie Fraser did say this to the board and got his way. But he was still nobbled by a penny-pinching board. Enter Westaway - who could see AF was on the same wavelength - gave him his freedom, and bingo, here we are today back in contention?? Does that sound like how it possibly unfolded??

The latter stages of the Plympton-Watson era were not good times for this footy club. I admit Plympton did some good work re debt reduction in the mid 90s, but the club was still a battler when he left. He did what he could...

By the time Waldron had left the scene, we'd become a genuine player on and off field, making big profits, securing/tying down good players, had attracted excellent corporate support and were fiscally prudent. The bloke was an all-round star.

A lot of the things in the Watts era were hampered by circumstances beyond his control, but he continued the best elements of Waldron's work.

I feel both did extremely well at transforming this club into a very strong club with the potential to become a truly powerful club.

They may have made some errors along the way, but they had to clear so much crap from our path. They didn't just clear it; they built a whole bridge over it.

They've laid a terrific foundation for future CEOs. I'll admit some of AF's work just didn't seem measure up early in the piece, but he does appear to be making up some ground now with some good initiatives.

I think he's embraced the values of Westaway's ticket, and with so many problems cleared from our path by the previous administration, there's really no reason why AF can't lead this club into an extremely strong position.

Let's hope he does.

By the time Waldron had left the scene, we'd become a genuine player on and off field, making big profits, securing/tying down good players, had attracted excellent corporate support and were fiscally prudent. The bloke was an all-round star.

We also traded our 1st Round pick for Brooks and signed penny and Hamill for 5 year contracts and allowed GT to run the show.....

Watts had the job twice he set it up for Waldron, he was CEO before Waldron and after Waldron, Watts I agree did some good things but clearly was not tough enough with GT or the board and allowed GT to trade our 1st round pick for his son....now gone....thats 2 first round picks both gone......

I agree they did some good things considering where we were during the Plymo years.....but this was more Watts who was on the board and as CEO twice...not Waldron.....who remember did not resign.....

If this is true then why has so much real change taken place in the past few months and why were Waldron and Watts not doing some of these things...if they were already in place AF would not have needed to do them...

...and that is the real legacy of RB, BW, GT, JW, MK and others....

For that period they did a great job...

But we needed a different crew to take us to the next level (though perrsonally BW could have beena very successful part ofa new crew).
