New vodaphone deal with the roos announced but it's no differant in length to what they had with the saints- 1 year with option- but with us they pulled out of second year.

February 05, 2008 NORTH Melbourne have landed more blows in their fight to survive as a Victorian-based AFL club, announcing a major sponsorship deal and a new campaign to entice more financial backing.

Club chairman James Brayshaw said that telecommunications giant Vodafone had signed on as a key backer for 2008 with an option of another 12 months.

Brayshaw said that the Vodafone contract would be extended if the club lived up to its goals on and off the field.

North is battling to remain in Melbourne in the face of an AFL campaign to relocate the club to the Gold Coast.

This sounds desperate to me - real desperate.

the thing is thou and I hope I am wrong is out of those 8000 extra members than last year how many will stick around if they have a poor year. And how many are joining to try and save the club and leave next year? (one year wonders).

Judging by thier past history of sponsorship with us, Vodafone are no indication North will survive as a stand alone club.

A short term injection of cash can't save them when the AFL inevitaby pulls the CBF off them for crossing the boss, as it were.
