It appears that there will be a meeting later this week to wind up the Mitcham Footy Club. I think they are/were one of the foundation clubs in the Eastern District Footy League.
It is a real shame when any footy club folds and this is no exception !!

It is, but a lot of this is due to their own chase for a flag. Some of these clubs are paying too much for talent they can't afford and are now in debt and are likely to close. This also goes for country clubs, stop paying for mercenary footballers who come up to play a game then goes home to the city straight afterwards.
I always loved playing there when I was a kid cause they had a grandstand and a big scoreboard.
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."
According to Mitcham's website, there is an extra ordinary meeting next Wednesday to vote on the proposed merger with Donvale. I believe Donvale are also holding a similar meeting.
Should Donvale vote against, Mitcham will die.
Their cricket team is fighting relegation also.

Donvale defanatly wont merge, they beleive theyve got a good crop of young kids coming up in the next couple of years. Sure they will suffer the pain this year in Div 1 but will survive overall.
That's a bloody shame. I'm surprised that a club like Mitcham can't stay afloat. Were they still in Div. 1 in the EDFL?
I used to umpire EDFL in the 80's and they were strong then with lots of junior teams. What happened? Did all the kids grow up and move out? Did they over-extend their budget?
