Roosters shun home ground
NORTH Ballarat Roosters are in a self-imposed exile from their home ground owing to concerns about player welfare on the drought-affected playing surface.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
AFL club St Kilda has switched its main training session during a community camp in Ballarat next week from AUSTAR Arena to Ballarat Grammar School.
Victorian Country Football League south-west area manager Brett Anderson, who is co-ordinating the three-day AFL camp, said St Kilda was prepared to have a light skills session at AUSTAR Arena on Tuesday, but had ruled
out using the ground for Wednesday's full-scale training session.
"We had a good look around (AUSTAR Arena), but it wasn't up to standard.
"We're fortunate we were able to find another ground.
"The camp might have been compromised without a suitable venue."
Mr Anderson and St Kilda logistics manager Peter Maddern inspected several grounds, including Buninyong, Eastern Oval (where the redevelopment of changerooms was a stumbling block), St Patrick's College, and Ballarat
and Clarendon College.
Mr Anderson said fortunately the Grammar surface was to St Kilda's satisfaction.

For those Sainters interested in attending the official function at the Ballarat Leagues Club on Monday night - I phoned the club on Saturday night and was told that they are not taking bookings - I was told to 'just turn up, sign in as a guest and buy a ticket at the door', which obviously I am planning to dosaintbrat wrote: ... in relation to that The Peanut- I heard this morning that there were about 30 tickets left as of Friday.
I'l spruke now- I think its a great way to met the WHOLE team, without 1,000's around,
and or by attending one of the trianing of clinic sessions.

You are quite right Saintbrat - they are preselling tickets at the club and not taking bookings - The guy I spoke to at the club last night is being chased with a big stick by the manager as we speak.saintbrat wrote:in relation to that The Peanut- I heard this morning that there were about 30 tickets left as of Friday.

Hey Peanut another place for you to be will be at a theatre (not certain where it will be playing in Melbourne though)....to see the production of "Two Old Queens". A two-man show about The Queen Mum & Noel Coward. Edgar Metcalfe is brilliant as the Queen Mum.
Knowing how you love anything Noel Coward this is a delightful and clever show. Just finished in Perth and will be going to Melbourne & Sydney before heading off to London.
Don't miss it Peanut it's your type of show. Hope to see you at the Saints v Cats game on April 12

St Kilda arrives in Ballarat
A FIGHTING FIT St Kilda arrives in Ballarat today with a full squad for an AFL community camp.
St Kilda football general manager Matthew Drain said the Saints were easing a handful of players back from "slight" injuries, but on the whole they had a clean bill of health.
The injury-free status has St Kilda buoyed as they set their sights on a second AFL premiership, and first since 1966.
Second-year coach Ross Lyon has already stated he believes the upcoming season promises to be among the most competitive in history - opening the premiership door for St Kilda.
Drain said St Kilda would have a couple of light days in Ballarat before stepping up with a full-on training session at Ballarat Grammar School on Wednesday morning.
This is when St Kilda and other football fans in Ballarat will get an opportunity to see how the Saints are shaping up.
Their only other ball work will be a light skills session at AUSTAR Arena tomorrow.
"It won't be much more than a `touch' session," Drain said.
"It'll give people a chance to see and meet the players."
Drain said the St Kilda visit was also a chance to renew ties with Ballarat which once saw the city producing a string of Saints stars and the natural flow-on of a significant supporter base.
As the St Kilda country recruiting zone, Ballarat developed the likes of champion full forward Tony Lockett, champion full back and longstanding captain Danny Frawley, Michael Malthouse, Val Perovic
and Greg Burns to name a few.
Drain said the community camp would not only give football fans an opportunity to see and meet the Saints, getting away together would also give players a chance to do some bonding before the start
of the season.
"It's a good chance for them to get away together."
Up to 250 people, including almost 200 football supporters, will attend the camp's official get together at the Ballarat Leagues Club tonight, while some 300 youngsters are expected to attend a superclinic
at AUSTAR Arena today.

Ah you were always a good ideas man Bruce.....hopefully Eastern with his alleged driving skills will be able to chaufeur me around the top end of town I'm only in Melb for a few days and carless. After all he owes me a favour, I can recall chauffeuring Sir Eastern around Perth a number of years back so he could witness brawls in the streets of Freo. Heave ho way to go ehThe Peanut wrote:
