wayne carey arrested

AFL legend Wayne Carey was arrested and handcuffed last night over allegedly assaulting police during an incident at his Melbourne home.
Police used capsicum spray on the former Kangaroos champion at his Port Melbourne home.
Police spokesman Sen-Constable Wayne Wilson said a brief of evidence would be prepared in relation to allegations of assault of police.
He said the matter involved two officers.
Police sources said Carey called police to the apartment he shares with girlfriend Kate Neilson just after 8pm.
He allegedly wanted Ms Neilson removed from the apartment, but when five police cars arrived he refused to let any officers inside.
Carey then allegedly assaulted police when they tried to enter the apartment, and resisted arrest.
Police used the spray to subdue him before handcuffing him.
Paramedics were called to the foyer of the complex to treat Carey, as is standard police practice when capsicum spray has been used.
Police took him to St Kilda police station about 8.30pm.

Maybe the police get a bit trigger-happy with the spray cos it was Carey...maybe they didnt..we dont know cos we werent there..but..the whole incident was sparked when Carey called the police to have his long-term girlfriend kicked out of his flat..and then he hassles them when they arrive..hardly normal behaviour i would have thought

Stick to something you have got half a glue about Sobraz!!
So out of character for Wayne to assault people isn't it. He is a person of such high virtue. Yeah must be the fault of the police. You are so insightful Sobraz. Must be all those years you spent on the force being assaulted, spat on and attacked by drug crazed maniacs.
You are just one of the many people who have no idea about the law and how difficult it is to enforce, IMO.

I think it is against the new forum rules to call a fellow poster an idiot, so I will restrict myself to saying that a few lamb chops appear to have fallen off Mr Sobraz's barbeque during the Australia Day Weekend.The_Dud wrote:idiotSobraz wrote:yes it does.. police over-reaction again no doubt... seriously loosing touch with society are the boys in blue... give me a break..

I heard that he apparently had 2 ladies (including his live-in girlfriend) in his apartment and asked one to leave. When she refused he called the police. By the time they arrived he had changed his mind and told the police that.
They apparently told him that since they had been called they had to investigate, to which he became incensed and threw a punch at one of the policemen.
From all accounts the Police didn't do anything wrong in this case.

Dead set..if theres a more sanctimonious, holier-than-thou dill on Melbourne radio...I wish someone, ANYONE would dig some dirt up on Mr Mitchell cos Id love to watch him squirm. He of course would plead "cant I have a life outside work??"Eastern wrote:Just a side issue to this;
Carey is out of contract at 3AW and their "main man" Neil Mitchell was calling for him to be sacked this morning. How someone can be sacked when they don't have a job is a question better asked of Mitchell/3AW !!

Maybe if more cops showed respect then people like Sobraz may reciprocate....eppo67 wrote:Stick to something you have got half a glue about Sobraz!!

I've had two bad experiences and there is none more law abiding citizen than I. They've lost my respect.
Necessary evil.
However Carey also has history so I will not prejudge.
And who instigated those 2 bad experiences I wonder?BallBanger wrote:I've had two bad experiences and there is none more law abiding citizen than I. They've lost my respect.eppo67 wrote:Stick to something you have got half a glue about Sobraz!!

I cop was locked up after being investigated by their internal affairs....your comments typical of this bad egg
Heard Tony Jones say that but then the footage was shown on A Current Affair (and on most channel's news bulletins since). Didn't make much sense to me.saint66au wrote:Nine reporter Tony Jones said a security guard offered Nine the same footage for $20,000 but the network refused for fear the images were stolen.
Hmm...or looking after one of their own perhaps??

IT BEGAN as a spat between former footballer Wayne Carey and police, but yesterday turned into a fight between rival television networks over the broadcasting of security video footage.
Images on Channel Seven last night showed a red-faced Carey disoriented and unable to walk straight because of the effects of capsicum spray.
He was sprayed by police after they arrived at his Port Melbourne apartment on Sunday night to investigate a noisy domestic dispute.
In the footage, for which Channel Seven is believed to have paid about $20,000, Carey is shown in handcuffs being escorted into the Port Melbourne building's lift. He appeared to be arguing with police who rinse his eyes with water.
Channel Seven deputy news producer Mark Gillies declined to comment on how the network obtained the footage, other than to say: "We are happy we have got it."
The Nine Network said a security guard offered Nine the footage for $20,000, an offer it declined because it feared the tape was stolen.
A Victoria Police spokesman said police had spoken to a security guard about the "alleged theft" of the security footage. He said no charges had been laid and that inquiries were ongoing.
Police said yesterday they had arrested and subdued with capsicum spray a 36-year-old former footballer at a Rouse Street, Port Melbourne, address.
They were considering laying charges against him of assaulting police.
Neighbours in Carey's street reported seeing him handcuffed outside the apartment after 8pm.
One witness said he had heard a woman sobbing "very, very loudly, very, very distressed" in the apartment foyer.
Senior Constable Wayne Wilson said police were allegedly assaulted at the apartment's front door.
"Police arrived and then at the front door the fellow from the address allegedly assaulted police officers," he said.
"They struggled with him, sprayed him. He was arrested and taken to the St Kilda police station where he was spoken to and interviewed, and a brief of evidence will be prepared in relation to assault police."
Carey shares his apartment with girlfriend model Kate Neilson.
His 271-game AFL career was blotted by scandal over his affair with the wife of his best friend and North Melbourne Football Club vice-captain, Anthony Stevens.
He split with his wife Sally in February 2006, two months after the birth of their daughter, Ella.
In 1996, he pleaded guilty to indecent assault after grabbing a woman's breast following a 12-hour drinking session.
Last year he was embroiled in public debate after remarks he made about AFL player Nathan Thompson's experience with depression.
Since his retirement in 2004, Carey has turned to the media for a living, appearing as a match commentator for Fox Sports and Melbourne radio station 3AW and as a guest commentator on Channel Nine programs including The Footy Show.
3AW morning talkback presenter Neil Mitchell called for Carey's contract not to be renewed.
