Saints List Even More Unbalanced for 2008
I started to notice last year when there was a propensity for injured players to have a name starting with a G or an H (Gardiner, Goddard, Hamill or Hudghton spring to mind).
Looking more closely at the team list it was clear that we were unbalanced, with only 7 of 38 senior players to have a name starting with a letter in the second half of the alphabet.
Compare that to the 2007 finalists - Geelong (13), Port Adelaide (17), West Coast (14), Kangaroos (19), Hawthorn (12), Collingwood (15), Sydney (12) & Adelaide (15).
Now look at our list for 2008. We are down to only 4 players in the second half of the alphabet.
Clearly with such an unbalanced team list we will struggle to match it with last years' finalists again.

Definitely top heavy, and i've pointed this out in the past. I think there was one stage where we didn't have anyone on our list with a surname starting with T-Z.
It makes you wonder if our recruitment staff work in alphabetical order, then get bored before they reach the latter part of the alphabet.

What makes it even sadder is that it was researched !!

It's a real problem and a cause for concern heading into 2008.
If we continue to develop a list that is so light-on in the T-Z range, we will struggle to cover adequately for injuries and the like.
I mean what happens if Riewoldt is injured? Who comes in? Attard? Armitage? Allen?
What a joke. All those "A's" are just useless.
And then there's Rix. Almost single handedly this guy is keeping us from L-Z anonymity.
He must stay.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.
Wow...we all must be extremely bored! Cause as Big Bird says, a good average of different alphabetical letters win premierships. Unfortunatly Bert and Ernie should have payed more attention to the alphabet during the draft and head coach cookie monster's been a little distracted. I wonder what tomorrow's magic word will be? Hopefully not "hamstring"

I blame RB, obviously why GT was sent on his way and RL given the gig.Oh When the Saints wrote:It's a real problem and a cause for concern heading into 2008.

Thankfully GW has taken the helm now and we picked up Shneider at least... the sooner we can develod Sweeney and Van Rheenan the better too.

It's a problem and we need to correct it ahead of the 2009 season.casey scorp wrote:I started to notice last year when there was a propensity for injured players to have a name starting with a G or an H (Gardiner, Goddard, Hamill or Hudghton spring to mind).

This is the type of phonetic profile we need to get back to:
St Kilda
B: Rodger Head Robert Murray Brian SIERAKOWSKI
HB: Verdun Howell Ian SYNMAN John Bingley
C: Jeff Moran Ian STEWART Jim READ
HF: Ian Cooper Darrel Baldock (c) Barry Breen
F: Allan Morrow Kevin NEALE Allan Davis
Foll: Brian Mynott Daryl Griffiths Ross SMITH
Int: Travis PAYZE Kevin Billing
That's 6 out of 20 from our Premiership team which is much better than the 7 from 38 we currently have.
If you take the more common phone book split A - K, L - Z you can include Murray, Moran, Morrow and Mynott we have 10 out of 20 or in other words a perfectly balanced side.
Compared to our most recent game where we only had two players in the second half, Riewoldt and Thompson (gone) and five in the L - Z range. That is why we struggled to beat Richmond who had 11 of 22 in the second half of the alphabet.

Win it for HIM!
I hope we are all joking about this....

It can be related to numerology (each letter is designated a number) and some folk take that pretty seriously (I do not), even knew a girl who changed her name so that the letters in it would add up to a more successful number!...Huzzad wrote:I hope we are all joking about this....
