Saintsational Trophy (Expression of Interest)
Hey could one of the mods please make this a sticky
You may remember I brought up the idea of having a fan voted player of the year award on Saintsational a few weeks ago, it generated a bit of support and I wanted to start seeing how many people would want to be involved...
Also it would be great if we could actually get a trophy to award the winner which would probably cost a couple hundred dollars, so if you could donate a few bucks that would be great, just post how much you would be willing to give next to your name...

Due to the common opinion that we should keep it simple the rules are as straight forward as you can get
Any member who would like to participate votes their 5-4-3-2-1 for the best on ground that match, I will collate the votes and the player with the most votes will get 5 points to their tally, the player with the second most will get 4 points and so on...

It really comes down to how much you can spare, hopefully we will get enough numbers so that we would only have to chuck in spare change basically...Eastern wrote:YES & YES
Let me know how much $$$ towards the trophy !!

Umm...look....kudos to you for taking the time to work all this out..but..whats wrong with just letting everone vote??
Every week when an informal "votes" thread is started, enough people vote 3-2-1 or whatever to give it a fair result I reckon.
Save yourself some work..by all means get a trophy if you want..and Ill happily chip in ..but...Primary and Secondary voting?? sheesh voting a US President is simpler than that. Just let people vote!!
A thread every week...votes 5 thru 1 or 3-2-1..whatever...but I reckon let everyone participate. For crying out loud theres not a car or a world trip up for grabs..its just a fun thing!!

Yeah we were talking about it a few weeks ago, however there are too many variables, some times 5 people may votes, sometimes 40 people may vote, I believe that this is the fairest way to do it, however if enough people feel that way I would happily change it to a simpler voting structure, this is just what I believe will get the most accurate reading of what Saints fans thought week to week...saint66au wrote:Umm...look....kudos to you for taking the time to work all this out..but..whats wrong with just letting everone vote??

would love to vote but unfortunatly being in perth i will not see a few games at all so i cant possibly say who is BOG if i dont see the game
as for the trophy i think and this is jusst my opinion a medal is a better idea as im sure every AFL player has 101 trophies in their possession and its more likly to be ditched or given to the club for dust collecting duty where as a medal is smaller more likely to be kept bythe player as it wont take up space in their house

Now guys...
Couldn't we do one of these?
-> All fans vote on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis for every match. Keep it simple! Each Saintsational member's vote is worth the same as the next member, regardless of rank and status (unless they're an opposition troll or porn-bot ).
-> Instead of chipping in the $ now, we host an awards night at the end of the year, put a slight premium on the per head cost, and put the funds toward a trophy for a player, book a restaurant/pub/function room, etc. We invite everyone from the club along to mingle with the fans, and make a real night of it, we make a few $ for the site, and a bit for the trophies.
Can this work in real life?
Yes! BlueKipper is an Everton fans website, and they do exactly the above format (they choose a player of the year, young player of the year, etc).
And the players take it seriously. Even the media do:
Legends line up for Bluekipper night
(http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0400 ... /0100news/)
A star-studded line-up turned out for the Bluekipper.com annual presentation night.
In a major coup for the popular Everton fans website, the guest list at Croxteth's Stonebridge Inn read like a who's who of Blues players from past and present.
Among the host of stars in attendance was defender Joseph Yobo who picked up the fansite's Player-of-the-Year award, but a rare public appearance from Goodison hero Duncan Ferguson was the highlight for the 300 plus Evertonian's at the sell-out event.
Now, they're no bigger than us. Why couldn't we pull off such a thing, and make our Player of the Year award a proper night, and make it into something that the fans and players would actually value and appreciate?

the problem with everyone voting is that players such as Milne/Blake/Rix could get 40 possesions, kick 8 goals and have 35 hit outs to advantage, yet some forumites will still refuse to acknowledge them, and give there own pet players all the votes (for example, they might be really really ridiculously good looking)
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

Ok We can make it more simple, that seems to be what people want...
After each game every member is free to post their 5-4-3-2-1 and I will be happy to collate them after each match, the player with the most votes will get 5 points, the player with the second most votes will get 4, the player with the third most votes will get 3 and so on, this way no player can be advantaged or disadvantaged if less people vote one week compared to another...
As for Everton's idea for the awards night that would be great, but I think that would probably have to be up to one of the older members to organise, I was hoping to email the club and see if they would be interested in letting a poster or two present the award, in which case we could have a raffle, but this would depend on the club allowing us...
As for other awards they could definitely be worth considering and they wouldn't have to be weekly voted things, at the end of the year we could just vote for a few awards....
Something like:
Best Young Player (22 and younger)
Most Improved Player
Most Courageous Player

Ok with the tally board would it be better if it was up on display the entire season or would it be better if after round 11 people started Emailing me instead so that the results can be a surprise until round 22?
