But that they get most TV money, biggest crowds, best grounds built for footy, most money to players, cheapest major sport to attend etc does make it by far the best run in the country.TimeToShineFellas wrote:You're missing the point - the original question plugger asked me is what organisations run their sports better than the AFL.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:good god your joking right the soccer has intrest in melb from you team winning it last year the comp is basically a retirment home for has beens and a kindie for future never was'sTimeToShineFellas wrote:A-League for starters. On a smaller budget than the AFL they have turned the A-League into something that is talked about in offices around Australia. Sure they may have hiccups along the way with crowds - but they will work it out.
Australian Cricket Board is certainly well more run than the AFL. The introduction of 20/20 Cricket has seen it emerge as family-friendly and something that will overtake limited-overs eventually. Apart from the criticism from ex-players (against the coach), you won't see many scandals that the ACB will sponge off.
the ACB could only dream to attract the numbers AFL does the only highly followed cricket is the international series the numbers at 1st class level are pathetic
This debate is not about crowd numbers. Just because the AFL has huge crowd numbers doesn't mean it's the best run organisation in Australia.
Why isn't 2008 a 23 Round season??

But that is like comparing apples and oranges. Of course those sports with a larger orginal supporter base will attract larger sponsors, TV audiences and crowds.plugger66 wrote:But that they get most TV money, biggest crowds, best grounds built for footy, most money to players, cheapest major sport to attend etc does make it by far the best run in the country.TimeToShineFellas wrote:You're missing the point - the original question plugger asked me is what organisations run their sports better than the AFL.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:good god your joking right the soccer has intrest in melb from you team winning it last year the comp is basically a retirment home for has beens and a kindie for future never was'sTimeToShineFellas wrote:A-League for starters. But to suggest that it's the AFL's management of the game that has created this is stretching it. Crowds have increased along with population increases. Brisbane still struggles to get a large enough membership despite 3 flags. Port struggle to draw crowds, kanga's also.
There have been a lot of improvements to the game but a lot of people have been disenfranchised in the meantime. The changes in rules, the farcial tribunal et al have been a disgrace and the AFL is full of people getting their cream on the side. You thought the old saints board was a boys club looking after each other, the AFL is worse! Is there ever anything said about the shocking deals the kangaroos and bulldogs get from the dome? What about the fact that board members have intrests incatering among others.
We all go to the football because despite the sickness that seems to spread through the game, we still love our clubs and the game of football is still a religion.
Yes the AFL is full of ego's, arse licking, friendships and enemies. To pretend that everything is hunky dory is silly atthe extreme.
