So - how are we lookin at Xmas 07'??
So far, since the Rd 22 game against the Tiges - we have:
Heard one of our captains make a strring speech at the B&F - a real call to arms!!
Changed our board - smoothly, without a major upheaval.
Appointed some very important ppl to our operations:
Matthew Drain, David Misson, Stephen Tingay, The Australian Olympic team doctor.
In addition Archie Fraser has started to operate as a top CEO - was he stifled previously??
We have announced a new home in Frankston on the back of a lucrative deal from Frankston city council which will give us the state of the art facilities some of our competitors have.
We have secured a staggering sponsorship deal with a global brand that is one of the biggest in AFL history and the biggest ever in club history.
All this on the back of some very robust and productive recruiting - the best we have seen in several years. All players are fit, they are on individual plans and focussed. The return of Gehrig has given the club a huge boost
Some highly regarded football ppl have predicted big things for us in 08'
And memberships are starting to pour in - ppl are clambering on due to the real buzz that is around our club. It is as exciting as I can ever remember - the players actually can't wait to play football!!!
So - I reckon in any one's language - we have had an excellent pre-xmas period. Couldn't have been any better I would say. In 2008 we have much to look forward to - the Schneider / Milne combo. Michael Gardner playing footy for us, Steven King in the ruck, Kosi up forward, A fit and refreshed Luke Ball A fit Hayes and Goose. BJ Goddard, some of our young guns and much more. Get Xmas out of the way, and roll on February for the opening NAB cup game. This could be a special year.. ..

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

thats just wrong mate.yipper wrote:S A fit and refreshed Luke Ball (moist) ..
FWIW with the exception of your selection of imagery (sweaty male groins don't do it for me, not even my own), I think we have got the off field most right.
I am yet to be convinced about some of our selections, and about the only one I think is an autowin is schnieder, the rest, I will wait with anticpation for.
still not convinced on the style of play we were served in 07.
that said, Im a sucker and will pick up my membership in 08.
I'd rather see success and wins than pain and day of the week.

I am of the belief Bally is feeling fit and fresh. Which is terrific news for him and us. He was joking last week that he was unable to kick more than 35 metres!! and he was looking forward to getting back to normal kicking distance. So this is exciting - but, I agree wiith Dan... perhaps not worthy of a moist!! So I have er.. removed said reference!!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA you've been quoted again so your reference to fascination with the moisture of Ball's balls will go down as one of the quotes for 07.yipper wrote:I am of the belief Bally is feeling fit and fresh. a little too upbeat methinks.
as to the players. they all say the same thing every year. "this is the best preseason we have ever had. I am the fitest i have ever been. " etc etc

things look good from an off field perspective, we seem to be kicking goals with the new board and staff.
I am yet to get down to training so i cannot comment on how the boys are looking. If luke ball is moving freely, and goddard and gardiner are progressing well we can be very optimistic about the 2008 season.

I've just renewed my membership and I've signed up the remaining 3 Eagles supporters in the house as Saints members this year.
I told them that I'd get rid of their Eagles memberships if they did not become Sainters as well.
Adds a few more to the bottom line.

I am still hurting from 71;
my gut churns thinking of 97;
2009 was agony,
2010a was a pleasure to watch only to be devastated by 2010 b.
It hurts barracking for the Saints

For me Misson will be the best Xmas present we could have wished for, followed by Drain....these two will add experience and allow Ross to do his job as Coach......and the final Xmas Cracker is a board that dont want to be in the papers and on radio every day........As the year goes on having Burkie and Thommo around and involved will be good too....
Our best is yet
to come......

We started selling later than other clubs - and I can assure you that OUR membership team is absolutely flat-out. Our total is increasing daily!! We are going to see an increased figure in 08'saintly wrote:memberships? the saints are at least 5,000 less members near the same time as last year and 2 years ago.yipper wrote: And memberships are starting to pour in - ppl are clambering on due to the real buzz that is around our club. the rest is down to luck with injuries and hopefully a less defensive and more risk-taking game plan

Because, believe it or not, ppl will actually be impressed by what is happening at Moorabbin these days and will start to think this could be a good year coming up - I better get a membership. Going by the demand for membership info pouring into our Membership dept at present. One would think that there is a bit of momentum building wouldn't one??plugger66 wrote:I hope your right but please tell me why our membership would increase next season.yipper wrote:We started selling later than other clubs - and I can assure you that OUR membership team is absolutely flat-out. On this site which is for very keen Saints supporters but not so sure out in the community. There is really no reason membership would rise. It dropped last year after coming 8th. Finished lower this year. Style of footy was better last year and we got more positibe publicity about our style last year compared to this year. Finally out tally is way down and even allowing for a late start we are behind last years tally.

We are reasonably well-placed to do the work required so that we can be a top-8 team in 2008.
I still think we're a long way from the top four at this stage, and the recent additions to our list have probably accelerated us ahead of Adelaide (which have lost a few players).
We need to work extremely hard to get back in contention; so many teams had a flop year in 2007, and they'll be primed to come back.
