I like to see Mini play in the midfield he has played a few good games in the middle so hope it still happens

He's a rookie now, so its probably out of the question, but would we have been tempted to say look mini, Bakes and Attard are out of side and we won't have either until round 6, how bout you assume the mantle of number one tagger for 5 weeks and see if you can take a few scalps...

As it turns out that role will go to Birss I dare say.

No they're not.
What a compelling argument, I'm totally convinced.
Do you need to be convinced that McQualter's skills aren't very, very good??
Sarcasm detector on the blink today, is it?
No, not at all. It's working fine and had strong readings whilst reading your post.

Dan Warna's post was perhaps the most realistic in this thread.

At the end of the day, Mini is behind 38 blokes on the list, including Jones and Geary, both of whom were elevated for 2008.

Clearly he is down in the pecking order in the mind of the coach.

My assessment:
Good skills, but no penetration with his kicking
Great work ethic
Tackling endeavour, but not the strength for it to be effective at AFL level
Ball-winning ability in close
Small, and offers little run and carry
Improving endurance, but yet to use it to his benefit in the AFL
Great leadership
Average footspeed

Realistically, McQualter will have to absolutely dominate at VFL level in 2008 to ever play AFL again.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Mini has been a midfielder his whole life.. All through his juniors and school footy he was a midfielder, with now real weapons aside from his ability to run all day and accumulate possesions.. He would regularly get high 30's per game, and his skills were always sound, but not great...

There is no way he can play forward... His foot skills are not upto the standard needed, and his pace is poor... Most importantly, he CANNOT mark overhead so forward option is out... Even the small guys like milne and davis etc are good overhead for their size..

If he is to make it, and its a long road back now, he has to work on his strengths... run all day and get in and under and use handball and short kicks to advantage...

Sam Mitchell is who he should model his game on. Difference is Mitchell is very strong, where mini is light and gets pushed around a bit.. He is tough however and has leadership qualities in that regard...

He can still make it, and it was a good decision IMO to get him back... His future lies in the guts..
