Rookie Draft
Who will the Saints pick up in the Rookie Draft?
Will it be the 2 guys who have been training with us
Michael Barlow or Glen Chivers, both same 2 be very good fotballers an are types of players we could us at the club.
Or will we go for an otusider who has been training with us?

gourdis had recieved interest from us, as had Kangars and connolly
expect at least one pick to be of an unheard of athlete (or similar) from the suburbs ie luke van rheenen from scorsby
pehaps the best young player from the vfl/sanfl/wafl/etc ie like clinton jones
dont be surprised if we take a recyled player ie attard
gourdis is similar to rob eddy...highly rated for the draft, not picked up untill rookie
i would be a little surprised if the trainees are picked...it is possible but i think with only two picks beveridge/peak and co would be trying to keep their cards rather close to their chest on who they are looking at
or pehaps, hope not, but pehaps andrew mcqualter

Yeah everyone said that he was going to be top 10 this yearSaintBot wrote:thats what everyone said about rhyce prismall last year...anyone know what happened to him?Otiman wrote:Should keep a look out for them in the rookie draft if they're still available next year then. They could slip under the radar for the national draft again.
Maybe Shane Velenti from Sandringham, I wouldn't mind him.SaintBot wrote:pehaps the best young player from the vfl/sanfl/wafl/etc ie like clinton jones

IMO our list is fairly balanced, so we should rookie players with the best chance of making it rather than looking at specific positions.
Rohan Bail impressed a lot when he came down and trained, and I wouldn't mind if we picked him up. Apparently a few other clubs have shown interest.
Valenti from Sandringham is a gun, and I would be shocked if he wasn't rookied by Melbourne.
Other than that, I'm willing to back Bevo's judgement. We have potentially 3 players on our rookie list now who could all easily have AFL careers, so if our strike rate is a little lower this time then it won't bother me.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I almost agree..Oh When the Saints wrote:IMO our list is fairly balanced, so we should rookie players with the best chance of making it rather than looking at specific positions.
.
I think that the balance of our list for both the immediate and longer term has improved dramatically and that most of our needs are now catered for.
However I think we are one key defender type short....particularly someone that can play FB apart from Max.
Yes guys like Sam Fisher can fill in...but is better used elsewshere.
Allen is touted....but is probably more suited up forward or as a CHB.

agree. however as the traditional FF becomes a thing of the past, the need to strictly have a FB as such is not such a neccessity. what is now required is flexibility and i feel our defence has that with max, goose and chips.

From what I have heard and read about him he could be servicable as a ruckman/ key back.
However he wouldn't be able to play 22 rounds at FB...
The only players (current) I could imagine him playing on would be
Brown (with help), Fevola, Rocca, Lucas, Roughead, N.Thompson, Neitz, Richo, Hall...
The way that FFs are evolving there wont be any stationary monsters around by the time he is ready to play so I would expect if he doesn't make it as a ruckman he is gone...

Look at the FF's of the league. None are gorilla types anymore, critical attributes are turning speed, agility, closing speed and arm reach. You're just not going to get all of those with a 200+cm bloke.n1ck wrote:Like who?
He wouldnt be played on someone like Brad Johnson, but certainly a Franklin or Boyle type, Q. Lynch, etc etc..
i agree with you here...a full back type would be nice......so would kyle matthews......saintsRrising wrote:I almost agree..Oh When the Saints wrote:IMO our list is fairly balanced, so we should rookie players with the best chance of making it rather than looking at specific positions.
